About the role:

This position is responsible for developing and implementing environmental programs and procedures to comply with regulatory requirements and to meet Operational and Corporate objectives.  This position is necessary to maintain compliance with air related environmental laws, regulations, and/or environmental orders and to provide cost-effective, technically sound solutions to environmental problems. Activities, responsibilities, and services of this position are applicable to Massena Operations site-wide.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Gain knowledge and experience in plant processes, engineering procedures and federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Demonstrate interest and initiative in assigned area
  • Demonstrate growing independence in projects and activities; may handle small projects independently.
  • Establish a good working relationship with peers, associates, and others at all levels
  • Demonstrate consistently effective workload and project management skills
  • Develop an awareness of the economic and safety impact environmental decisions have on the facility
  • Begin building effective working relationships with associates outside of assigned location
  • Be visible and accessible on the plant floor everyday
  • Interface with manufacturing departments regarding programs and practices to address areas of concern 
  • Manage the Alcoa Air Compliance audit requirement and Chemical Management Compliance audit requirement (self-assessment tool) by functioning as the plant responsible person
  • Lead on-the-floor audits and ensure follow up to successfully close gaps

What you can bring to the role:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental/civil engineering or equivalent and demonstrated ability to meet experience of entry level engineering job. 
  • Thorough understanding/learning of EPA and NYSDEC environmental regulations.
  • Must be self-motivating with excellent facilitator and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good knowledge of operations and procedures and be capable of communicating and consulting effectively with others.
  • Working knowledge of the following information system software applications: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Base salary: $67,000 - $92,000 USD annuallyTotal rewards packages listed, including base salary and bonus eligibility, applies to US based applicants only. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on a range of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, and competencies in conjunction with multiple components of the Employee Total Rewards Package. Alcoa reserves the right to change plans at its discretion.
