About the Role

An exceptional opportunity exists for a highly skilled Senior Financial Accountant with a passion for compliance and complex analysis to join our team at our new state of the art head office in Perth.

As our Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Alcoa's compliance with statutory accounting and corporate requirements and the provision of timely analysis and interpretation of financial data into the global system. You will provide specialist expertise including reviewing significant transactions and new ventures and further contribute to the wider business by:

  • Co-ordinating all USGAAP adjustments including adjustments associated with asset retirement obligations (ARO), pensions and Share based Payments.

  • Overseeing the integrity of the ARO, Embedded Derivatives and Share Based Payment Models and monitoring all pension adjustments for compliance under Australian International Financial Reporting Standards (AIFRS) and USGAAP.

  • Reviewing key contracts and the preparation of position papers for a broad range of accounting related issues.

  • Supervise financial accountant and support their professional development through mentoring and training.

  • Being the primary contact in relation to internal controls for maintenance of the general ledger and other areas of the business under scope (Pensions and ARO's).

  • Accounting and ledger reconciliations/reviews as well as monthly and ad hoc reporting of financial information as well as analysis of financial information.

  • Supporting the Financial Reporting Manager with quarterly and year-end audits and preparation and review of financial statements for all entities requiring statutory accounts.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance / Accounting coupled with a CPA / CA equivalent designation.

  • Proven experience working at a Big 4 or large mid-tier accounting firm.

  • Relevant industry experience within a similar role would be considered desirable.  

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to take initiative.

  • Advanced analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, applying insights to various business scenarios.

  • An ability to collaborate effectively within teams, including interaction with local and international finance teams.

  • Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and empower others to achieve results within tight deadlines.

About the Location

Alcoa Australia is currently located in Booragoon, WA, but will be relocating to the western end of St Georges Terrace in Perth CBD in Q3 2025. The Booragoon office is situated on Whadjuk Noongar land, 16 kilometres away from Perth's CBD. The office is situated next to Garden City and hosts employees from across several business units, including Commercial, Finance, Sustainability, Communications, Human Resources and the Global Refinery of the Future team.
