AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:

A senior technical contributor that drives end-to-end delivery of Optical IO architectures, PICs and lasers, directly contributing to, and coordinating implementation and optimization across multiple teams for Optical IO deployed in next generation AI and HPC applications. The position will involve interfacing with hardware engineering teams and AMD partners to plan, develop and optimize PIC solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the cutting edge of next generation GPU Computing.

THE PERSON:

You are a subject matter expert and strong technical contributor with Optical IO architecture, PIC and laser theory, design, layout, simulation, packaging, debug, test, manufacturing, reliability, qualification and support.  You excel as part of a team where communication and team skills are highly valued.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optical IO architecture, definition and development of OE systems in advanced Si photonics process technologies for DWDM and CWDM applications in next generation AI and HPC applications.
  • Innovation, product definition and specification of PIC architectures, TX chains, RX chains, components and test methodologies to meet demanding next generation Optical IO applications.
  • Work with systems teams to devise, maintain, simulate and optimize Optical IO link budgets reflecting key product requirements, PIC architectures, channel properties, active device component and passive component limits as well as foundry process technology capabilities.
  • Contribute to EIC design constraints and ensure OE architectures and designs meet aggregate PIC/EIC systems goals and optimization.
  • Compile, maintain and publish internal specifications for Optical IO systems at the PIC/EIC level across multiple OEs and process technologies and contribute to development of Optical IO SRDs at the system level.
  • Familiarity with CPO and FAU technologies and advanced manufacturing flows.
  • Design, layout and simulation of leading edge active and passive optical components with advanced EDA/CAD design tools and with advanced TCAD device simulation tools.
  • Investigate, refine and deploy advanced simulation methodologies with emerging EDA/CAD tool vendors.
  • Successful deployment of DFT and DFM methodologies for robust, scalable and reliable product solutions meeting first-pass success and schedule goals.
  • Effectively driving multiple chip leads owning OE top level and driving PIC design, layout and verification engineers for first pass success in advanced Si photonics process technologies.
  • Resource planning, monitoring and deployment for effective OE development programs.
  • Leading advanced architecture and device research across multiple foundries and set standards and goals and roadmaps for future Si photonic technology platforms.
  • Evaluate foundry PDKs and work closely with foundries to maintain and evolve PDK releases, critical device specifications, simulation and verification capabilities, physical verification capabilities and tool support.
  • Drive and support laser module product definition, vendor evaluation, laboratory evaluation, pathfinding and down-selection for Optical IO systems.
  • Evolve and optimize ELS specifications as part of overall Optical IO system requirements.
  • Coordination with internal systems customers, operations teams and program management to drive NPI and product management.
  • Planning, implementation and management of projects and programs.
  • Evaluation and management of external suppliers and vendors.
  • Define and release characterization, reliability and production test requirements.
  • Assess risks and mitigations with quantified Process and Design FMEAs.
  • Evaluate field returns and yield fallout to establish root cause and corrective actions.
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of internal and external prototypes.
  • Define laboratory equipment, measurement methods and metrology.
  • Work with international teams and partners.
  • Communicate and document design reviews, plans, status and results.
  • Support multiple Optical IO products and programs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent knowledge of and experience with Optical IO architectures and systems, OE and PIC component engineering and laser engineering for HPC and AI applications.
  • Extensive understanding of Optical IO system definition, design, optimization, deployment and roadmaps utilizing multiple advanced technologies.
  • Extensive understanding of the theory, design and simulation of active components and passives as well as subsystems and top-level OEs in advanced Si photonics process technologies.
