THE ROLE:
As a CPU Core Performance Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to architect, design and model performance features in AMD's next-generation CPU core. You will work in the center of an experienced, skilled, and motivated engineering team with a track record of success. As a member of the CPU Core performance team, you will work on the leading edge of processor technology to define CPU Architecture and collaborate with RTL design, Verification and Post-Silicon teams to make AMD's ambitious future CPU roadmap a reality.
THE PERSON:
You approach challenges relentlessly with both critical thinking and creativity. You work as part of a team with strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills. You have a solid understanding of modern CPU architecture, a solid track-record delivering complex performance features for modern CPU cores and have ideas and a drive to make it even better. Does this describe you? If so, then join us!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Architecture, design and modeling of high-performance CPU core features working on CPU core performance simulator.
- Correlation of performance features across performance simulator and actual CPU processor design in a pre-silicon simulation, emulation as well as post-silicon setting.
- Innovate technical ideas related to CPU architecture through CPU performance modeling ideas and techniques:
- Workload and trace analysis, ideation and development of CPU core performance features.
- High-level modeling of features to perform feasibility analysis on new performance features.
- Cycle-accurate core microarchitecture CPU core performance simulator development on features that have more detailed specifications.
- RTL model vs performance simulator model correlation
- Post-silicon performance analysis and correlation
- Lead team, meet schedule commitments and provide strong support to various customers related to performance modeling and correlation.
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams and technical leads across RTL, Verification, emulation and silicon to drive AMD's success in CPUs used across a variety of market segments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- A strong technical contributor with CPU architecture and performance modeling background and strong problem-solving skills.
- Prior experience and proven track-record in modeling of modern CPU cores performance features in one or more areas of the processor pipeline.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze current processor behavior, identify potential areas for improvement and design of experiments and performance studies leading to new performance features and improvements.
- Proven experience solving hard engineering problems related to CPU core architecture and micro-architecture from feature ideation to modeling and all the way to productization of CPU core performance features.
- Strong processor architecture and software engineering background, including use of AI tools and methods to design, test and optimize code used in performance modeling.
- A strong technical contributor with experience working with a distributed team across time zones.
- Strong mentoring, coaching and technical leadership skills.
- Strong communications skills. Able to summarize complex problems for team leaders and architects as well as drill down to details with engineers.
