THE ROLE:
We are seeking a strong HPC systems manager to join our Field Application Engineering team
- Ensure system uptime of our HPC clusters in Munich Germany, and Texas USA
- Enable Field Application Engineers, customers and OEM partners to run in an optimised system configuration.
- Focus is on regional support while being part of a larger team to enable ‘follow-the-sun' support.
- Explore, evaluate, and deploy emerging hardware and software technologies for HPC and AI environments.
- Drive automation initiatives to reduce repetitive tasks and continuously improve HPC operations.
While a technical role, the successful candidate will be able to work with international teams, have a genuine level of curiosity about systems and software, and is always willing and happy to help others in pursuit of excellence.

- Clear track record of managing HPC systems. This must be clearly demonstrable.
- Curious and passionate about technology, with a strong desire to learn, explore, and experiment with new ideas.
- Understands HPC ecosystem: toolchains, parallel file systems, high performance networks, batch managers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good level of business English.
- Strong positive can-do attitude willing to do what is necessary. Runs to problems. Available to help colleagues.
- Open to travel domestic and international, approximately 10%
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure uptime and excellent baseline performance of our systems in Germany and USA.
- Set up both EPYC CPU and Instinct GPU systems.
- Will assist Field Application Engineers, customers, and partners and demonstrate optimum system configuration through BIOS / linux / CPU or GPU systems
- Characterising applications on EPYC and Instinct, documenting results.
- Perform testing on early CPU samples. Active engagement with Engineering, Architecture, Platform, Software, and Product Development teams providing feedback and leadership from the field on future direction.
- Create necessary training material. Provide training sessions at customer sites. Act as specialist and mentor to frontline Field Application Engineering team
- Automating repeatable procedures
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Candidate has a track record of maintain HPC systems and associated HPC middleware. Strong experience with Redhat/Ubuntu/SLES
- Understanding of CPU architecture, settings, and impact on performance
- Can install and maintain compilers (C/C++/Fortran) and math libraries. Familiarity with Zen Software Studio, Intel OneAPI, gcc etc
- Network: Familiar with any of Infiniband, Slingshot, Omnipath/Cornelis, BXI
- Parallel Filesystems: experience with any of Lustre, BeeGFS, GPFS, WekaFS
- Familiar with a batch manager (eg SLURM/PBS) and cluster management tools (Bright/TrinityX)
- Understanding system level hardware and its configuration/impact on performance to enable projections on future performance
- Customer-facing experience. Able to write technical documents and communicate at an appropriate level
Nice to Haves:
- Experience building HPC applications on CPUs and GPUs
- Redhat Certified Engineer
- Knowledge with Openstack, Openshift, k8, docker, CUDA,
- Any experience understanding/inspecting/writing assembly
- Understanding of memory and cache hierarchy and methods to query performance/latency at each level
- Understanding HPC dataflow down to the register-level
- Any security clearance
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors' Degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics) preferred
