THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking an IP Architect to join our team in defining and developing next-generation intellectual property (IP) blocks for our cutting-edge semiconductor products. As an IP Architect, you will be responsible for driving the architectural vision, technical specifications, and implementation strategies for complex digital IP that powers AMD's industry-leading processors, accelerators, and SoC solutions. You will work at the intersection of innovation and execution, translating system-level requirements into scalable, high-performance IP architectures that meet stringent power, performance, and area (PPA) targets. This role offers the opportunity to shape AMD's technological direction in critical domains, working with state-of-the-art technologies including high-speed protocols, coherent interconnects, data fabrics, and advanced verification methodologies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including SoC architects, RTL designers, verification engineers, physical design teams, firmware developers, and external partners to deliver innovative IP solutions that enable AMD's next-generation products.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate is a technical leader with deep expertise in digital IP architecture and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. You possess strong analytical skills, strategic thinking capabilities, and the ability to balance innovation with practical execution. You thrive in collaborative environments, can influence without formal authority, and excel at communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences ranging from engineering teams to senior leadership.
You demonstrate:
- Technical Excellence: Deep understanding of digital design, microarchitecture, and IP development with proven ability to architect scalable, modular solutions
- Strategic Vision: Ability to define long-range technology direction and make architectural decisions that impact multiple products and product lines
- Leadership & Influence: Strong interpersonal skills to drive consensus across teams, mentor engineers, and represent AMD's technical vision to stakeholders
- Execution Focus: Track record of delivering complex IP on schedule while maintaining high quality standards
- Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in IP architecture and design
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and drive IP architecture strategies for complex digital blocks including interconnects, memory controllers, I/O subsystems, and high-speed protocol implementations (PCIe, CXL, DDR5, GDDR, HBM)
- Establish architectural requirements and specifications that meet system-level PPA (Power, Performance, Area) targets and functional requirements
- Perform architectural trade-off analysis across performance, power, area, complexity, and schedule dimensions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including SoC architects, RTL designers, verification engineers, physical design teams, and firmware developers
- Own high-impact technical programs, driving planning, execution, risk management, and technical alignment across engineering functions
- Champion best practices in IP architecture, design, verification, and validation methodologies
- Mentor and develop engineering talent while acting as a recognized technical authority
- Communicate technical status, risks, and architectural decisions to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Support post-silicon validation and contribute to AMD's technical community through publications and patents
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong experience in digital IP architecture, design, or verification
- Deep expertise in one or more domains: high-speed protocols (PCIe, CXL, DDR5, GDDR, HBM), coherent/non-coherent interconnects, memory subsystems, I/O subsystems and DMA engines, CPU/GPU/AI accelerator architectures, or Network-on-Chip (NoC)
- Strong understanding of RTL design (Verilog/SystemVerilog), verification methodologies (UVM, formal verification, emulation), and physical design considerations
- Outstanding foundation in SoC architecture with knowledge of heterogeneous computing systems, virtualization, security, and confidential computing
- Proven track record of defining and delivering complex IP architectures on schedule
- Experience with IP creation automation, scripting languages (Python, Perl, TCL), and front-end EDA tools
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams
- Experience mentoring engineering talent and leading technical initiatives across multiple teams
- Domain expertise in data center, embedded computing, automotive, aerospace & defense, networking, or consumer electronics preferred
- Prior publications, patents, or contributions to high-impact technical initiatives a plus
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required
