THE ROLE:
AMD is seeking an experienced I/O Performance Modeling Engineer to drive best-in-class I/O performance for AMD's IOMMU IP, from pre-silicon IP modelling through to post-silicon performance optimization. This role involves studying IP architectural performance by using cycle-accurate models to assess IP performance across system level workloads.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to understand HW architecture, performance and modeling. The candidate should identify performance bottlenecks in the IP pipeline and propose architectural solutions to resolve bottlenecks encountered. This role involves performance experimentation and data-driven performance analysis including working with IP designers and architects to assess performance data.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in architecture exploration as it pertains to IP performance across various AMD products.
- Analyze complex datasets to help define the requirements for next-gen IP roadmaps.
- Expand, maintain and document the IP modeling framework.
- Propose and oversee architectural case studies involving existing silicon, RTL and/or performance models
- Strong object-oriented programming skills – Python (preferred), C++
- Support performance debugging in simulation, emulation and post-silicon
- Investigate performance results from regressions and interpret findings for follow-up actions
- Analyze trace captures from post-silicon application workloads
- Interface with SoC and IP Architects, Performance Verification Leads, and in various Performance Working Groups
- Communicate openly and clearly in meetings, presentations, emails, and reports to engineering and engineering management
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- PC System Architecture and I/O Connectivity Protocols: PCI Express, CXL
- Data Center I/O Workloads, and understanding memory bandwidth and performance
- I/O Virtualization (x86, ARM), Shared Virtual Memory and MMU working knowledge
- Accelerators
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and 5 to 20 years transferable industry and/or research experience
