THE ROLE:
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Senior Software Systems Design Engineer to join our growing compiler performance and functional validation team.
THE PERSON:
You will deliver to our next generation of products in CPU by performing compiler performance and functional validation
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive technical innovation to strengthen AMD's validation capabilities, including software tool and script development, enhancement of technical and procedural methodologies, and participation in internal and cross-functional initiatives.
- Develop a comprehensive test strategy and end-to-end validation plan to ensure functional quality and performance readiness across releases
- Engage with fellow leads and managers to jointly evaluate options and arrive at well‑aligned technical solutions and plans.
- Utilize AI to take the validation process to the next level by improving test effectiveness, automation, and insights
- Support and coach team members with less experience in diagnosing and resolving technical challenges
- Take direct ownership of troubleshooting and resolving compiler build, linking, and test configuration issues across benchmark suites and open‑source, enterprise, and HPC applications using multiple compilers.
- Establish and track validation metrics to systematically drive process optimization and quality improvements.
- Validate compilers by developing tests from both black-box and white-box perspectives to cover compiler features comprehensively.
- Triage compiler issues, determine root causes, identify gaps in existing test coverage, and develop additional tests to strengthen the compiler test workload.
- Automate the execution of compiler functional and performance tests across various test suites.
- Automate the comparison of compiler functional and performance test results.
- Automate the generation and delivery of compiler test reports.
- Provide technical leadership in compiler validation areas.
- Develop novel approaches to leverage AI for defect triage, root cause analysis, and defect reporting for compliers.
- Resolve application build infra issues with open-source applications, HPC applications to ensure compatibility with different C, C++, and FORTRAN compilers.
- Analyze compiler defects and create minimal reproducible test cases for failing compiler test workloads.
- Design and build new tools to improve the efficiency of compiler testing.
- Analyze external and customer-reported compiler defects, automate them for validation in nightly compiler tests, and develop additional tests based on scenarios derived from these defects.
- Convert feature specifications into test cases (manual and automated) covering boundary, negative, functional, and other types of testing.
- Consistently deliver accurate and timely summary and individual validation reports to stakeholders.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Compiler development, bug fixing, and maintenance with a focus on improving compiler quality.
- Compiler performance analysis with a focus on improving compiler quality.
- Compiler performance benchmarking.
- Compiler black-box and white-box validation.
- Programming and scripting skills (Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, C, C++).
- Debug techniques and methodologies.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with PC configurations (both software and hardware) and troubleshooting methods.
- Proven experience working with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of system architecture, technical debugging, and validation strategies.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask through effective planning and organization.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or master's degree in engineering.
