ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD.

At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we're looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don't shy away from humanity's challenges but are determined to help solve them.

AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you're designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward.

STAFF BIOS CUSTOMER APPS ENGINEER

THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for an experienced Customer Application Engineer to support AMD Embedded and x86 customers across BIOS, firmware, platform bring-up, customer issue triage, technical escalation, and production readiness. This role is the technical bridge between customers, FAEs, Product Management, Program Management, BIOS/Firmware Engineering, Platform Engineering, Validation, and Quality teams.

The CAE will own customer-facing technical engagement from initial requirement clarification through debug, workaround, engineering escalation, validation alignment, and closure. The role requires strong BIOS and platform expertise combined with customer-first communication, structured problem solving, and the ability to balance customer urgency with engineering execution discipline.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with strong BIOS/Firmware depth, platform debug capability, and proven experience supporting external customers. This person is comfortable operating in high-ambiguity customer situations, translating customer observations into actionable engineering problems, and driving closure across globally distributed teams.

  • Strong customer-facing presence with clear, structured, and professional communication.
  • Deep technical curiosity and ownership mindset for customer issue resolution.
  • Ability to engage across BIOS, firmware, silicon, board, OS, validation, and product domains.
  • Comfortable working with FAEs, customer engineers, engineering specialists, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Able to prioritize customer escalations while maintaining disciplined technical triage and execution rigor

A self-starter with the ability to accomplish complex performance optimization independently and collaborate with others to resolve problems found. You should feel comfortable working in a lab environment.

AMD's environment is fast paced, results oriented and built upon a legion of forward-thinking people with a passion for winning technology. This is an extraordinary opportunity to work in an outstanding company like AMD - Join us!

If you are keen on understanding performance, excited about small gains and are persistent until the solution is found, then this is the role for you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer Technical Ownership: Act as the primary technical interface for customer issues, requirements, feature asks, and platform enablement activities.
  • BIOS/Firmware Support: Support BIOS configuration, UEFI flows, firmware debug, platform initialization, ACPI/SMBIOS, secure boot, PCIe configuration, memory-related setup, and other BIOS-dependent customer requirements.
  • Customer Issue Triage: Own structured triage of customer issues, including reproduction strategy, technical data collection, debug coordination, prioritization, tracking, and closure.
  • Escalation Management: Engage BIOS Engineering, Firmware, Silicon, Validation, QA, Product Management, and Program Management teams when engineering support is required.
  • Platform Bring-Up: Support customer bring-up activities across prototype, validation, and production phases, including board-level/system-level debug and platform readiness reviews.
  • Feature Gap Assessment: Assess customer requests and CCBs for technical feasibility, existing platform support, required engineering ownership, and execution path.
  • Customer Communication: Provide timely, technically accurate customer updates, issue summaries, workaround guidance, closure notes, and escalation status.
  • Field Team Enablement: Support FAEs and customer-facing teams with technical guidance, issue background, support workflows, and product capability clarification.
  • Cross-Functional Closure: Drive issue resolution through defined workflows and ensure clear ownership, accountability, and decision-making across stakeholder teams.
  • Customer Readiness: Contribute to customer satisfaction, product adoption, design-win support, production readiness, and long-term customer relationship success.
  •

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of experience in Customer Application Engineering, Customer Engineering, BIOS Engineering, Firmware Development, Embedded Systems, Platform Engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience in BIOS/Firmware enablement and debug on x86 or embedded platforms.
  • Experience with UEFI BIOS, platform initialization, ACPI, SMBIOS, PCIe, memory configuration, secure boot, platform security, RAS, and power/performance configuration.
  • Experience supporting external customers, ODM/OEM engagements, field escalations, and customer production issues.
  • Strong platform-level debug skills across BIOS, firmware, hardware, operating systems, device drivers, virtualization, power, and performance domains.
  • Experience with debug tools such as JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, firmware trace tools, BIOS debug utilities, and crash dump analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Windows, embedded Linux, scripting, and automation using Python or shell scripting.
  • Experience working in global cross-functional environments with engineering, validation, QA, product, program, and customer-facing teams.
  • Prior experience with AMD platforms, embedded x86 products, networking, industrial, storage, automotive, communications, or compute segments is preferred.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline is preferred.
