PMTS SILICON DESIGN ENGINEER
THE ROLE:
We are seeking a seasoned Graphics Architecture and System Modeling expert with deep expertise in hardware-software co-design, performance modeling, and rapid algorithm prototyping. You have had significant success driving architectural innovations through fast prototyping, performance analysis, and architecture-software co-optimization. You are meticulous about Power, Performance and Area while leveraging detailed modeling, shader development, and workload optimization to inform architectural decisions. This senior role will stretch you as you lead modeling and co-design teams in new directions, network with our world-class, patent-holding think-tank, and collaborate amongst design teams, graphics software teams, and business unit executives.
THE PERSON:
You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc. You are highly adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Rapidly prototype and evaluate architectural features through shader development, algorithm implementation, and performance modeling to inform next-generation graphics architecture decisions - Develop cycle-approximate simulators and performance models of graphics hardware to enable early architecture exploration and workload optimization - Drive hardware-software co-design through hands-on shader optimization (HIP, CUDA, Triton), workload analysis, and correlation between software implementation and hardware performance - Create optimized kernels and benchmark against competitive solutions to demonstrate performance attainment and identify architectural improvement opportunities - Work cross-functionally with graphics architects, compiler teams, and application developers to identify performance bottlenecks and develop co-optimized solutions - Lead fast modeling methodology for architectural features, expanding from graphics-specific to system-level modeling with external dependencies - Build and showcase technology demonstrations combining advanced rendering (ray tracing, neural shaders) with ML-based techniques (MLSR, MLFI, generative AI) - Support architecture teams with performance correlation studies, simulator fidelity validation, and data-driven architectural recommendations
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Deep understanding of graphics hardware architecture, compute pipelines, and rendering techniques (ray tracing, lighting, shading) - Hands-on shader development experience with HIP, CUDA, or Triton for performance optimization and algorithm prototyping - Strong fundamentals in machine learning, linear algebra, and matrix mathematics for ML-accelerated graphics workloads - Proven experience developing performance simulators and cycle-approximate models for architecture exploration - Demonstrated ability in performance analysis: identifying bottlenecks, correlating software implementation with hardware behavior, and optimizing critical kernels - Experience with compiler optimization and hand-tuned assembly code for performance-critical paths - Fast algorithm prototyping skills with ability to quickly learn new technologies and build working demonstrations - Proficiency with graphics software tools (Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity) is a plus - Strong problem-solving skills and hardware-software co-design mindset - Excellent communication, technical leadership, and presentation skills - Adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and senior architects with strong interpersonal skills to work across teams in different geographies
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline preferred; PhD is a plus #LI-CC5
#LI-REMOTE
