THE ROLE:  

The AMD S3 (Strategic Silicon Solutions) System Debug Team is seeking an energetic, experienced System Debug Engineer to join our growing team where past products included blockbuster products such as PlayStation, XBOX, and SteamDeck.  As a System Debug Engineer, you will work closely with our customers who are developing AMD processor, chipset, and graphics based systems. This engineer will work with internal validation teams and our customers on the debug of system issues in time to meet product development or sustaining milestones.

 

As a key contributor to the success of AMD's IP, you will be part of a leading team to drive and enhance AMD's abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry leading technologies to market. The System Debug Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes, provides ample opportunities to develop technical depth of knowledge, as well as facilitate continuous career development.  

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Debugging semi-custom PC-like systems with an emphasis on system level debug across multiple IP and system domains found within the product.
  • Providing root cause analysis and guidance for the closure of issues to both internal and customer-facing/external teams.
  • Defining and executing Debug IP functional test plans and validation strategies.
  • Reviewing schematics and layout files.
  • Driving technical innovations in order to enhance AMD's capabilities in system debug, including debug tool and script development, technical and methodology enhancement, and participation in various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives.
  • Debug and support of system issues found in firmware, hardware, or software during pre-silicon, bring-up, validation, and production phases of strategic silicon solutions.
  • Lead collaborative technical discussions to drive resolution on technical issues as well as rolling out technical initiatives.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 3-5 years of experience with low level software/firmware and embedded systems as well as post-silicon verification.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly.
  • In-depth knowledge of system architecture and concepts, including proficiency in x86 and ARM architectures, their functionality, and debug practices.
  • Extensive experience with board/platform-level debug, including experience with industry standard busses such as DDR, PCIe, I2C, USB, SATA, etc.
  • Knowledge and use of standard debuggers, programmers, and related tools and methodologies (JTAG, Dstream, Lauterbach, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of BIOS, OS, and Driver-level interactions at the system level, and common failure points within.
  • Working debug knowledge of Windows and Linux-based operating systems and technologies.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excel in a dynamic team working environment.
  • Self-starter, strong collaborator, and able to independently drive tasks to completion, especially those with high ambiguity.
  • Experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience with reading and understanding board schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Exposure to and experience with hardware emulators and debug concepts.
  • Knowledge of C, C++, assembly, and other scripting languages.
  • Technical understanding of Graphics, Display, Multimedia, PCIe, System Management, Power Management, or Security/Crypto architecture & design.
  • Technical Leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Exposure to Android OS and debugging methodologies relating to it.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:  

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or related degrees
