SYSTEM DESIGN Arch

THE ROLE:

The EE System Architecture Lead defines and governs the end-to-end electrical architecture of laptop platforms, ensuring subsystem decisions align with product requirements for performance, power, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.

This role is the technical anchor across silicon, board design, firmware/BIOS, thermal/mechanical, validation, and manufacturing functions, driving architecture quality from concept through production.

THE PERSON:

As a Technical Owner in x86 Systems Design Engineering, you will be responsible for defining design architecture and setting the technical direction for CRB platforms. You will lead in-depth technical collaborations with cross teams to co-develop reference systems that align with AMD platform requirements. In this high-visibility role, your expertise in electrical systems engineering will be crucial for making system-level trade-off decisions regarding performance, thermals, cost, and schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own laptop system design architecture and technical direction across CRB and customer platforms.

  • Translate design spec and use-case requirements into system-level electrical requirements and design constraints.

  • Act as the primary technical interface between external customers and AMD internal functional teams.
  • Drive cross-team technical discussions, issue triage, and debug closure for multiple programs.

  • Provide architecture guidance for key laptop components, including panel, memory, storage, and interface subsystems

  • Identify technical risks early and drive mitigation plans.

  • Build reusable architecture guidelines and best practices to support sustainable scaling of laptop programs.

  • Leading collaborative approach with multiple teams

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of experience in notebook/laptop system design or platform architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience in notebook platform architecture, board-level integration, and cross-functional system bring-up.

  • Proven experience engaging directly with ODM/OEM engineering teams to drive technical alignment and execution.

  • Solid understanding of system-level design trade-offs across silicon, firmware, BIOS, thermal, and mechanical constraints.

  • Experience in root cause debug and issue closure for complex platform problems.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional technical discussions

  • Knowledge of key laptop component technologies, including panel, memory, and storage subsystem behavior.

  • Track record of leading architecture decisions in high-volume product programs.

  • Experience with AMD mobile platforms and ecosystem requirements is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering, or related field
