Position Overview

 

AMD is seeking a highly experienced tax leader to serve as a key deputy to the Senior Director of Global Tax Operations, with primary responsibility for global tax accounting, external reporting, and tax operations execution.

 

This role will own execution of the global tax reporting function, including tax provision (ASC 740) and tax operations, through direct leadership of multiple workstream leads. The Tax Director will act as a primary integrator across tax and finance, ensuring alignment with Corporate Accounting, FP&A, and Treasury, while operating within the strategic framework established by the Senior Director. The role is expected to embrace AI and other enabling technologies to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the tax function as AMD continues to grow.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

 

End-to-End Tax Operations Leadership

  • Own execution of global tax operations across provision, reporting, tax operations, and coordination with compliance activities
  • Provide leadership and oversight to senior managers across key tax workstreams (Provision, International Tax, Tax Ops)
  • Partner closely with the U.S. Compliance lead to ensure strong coordination across reporting and compliance calendars, dependencies, and issue resolution
  • Drive alignment, prioritization, and accountability across core areas of the tax function; serve as a key escalation point for operational and technical tax matters

 

Global Tax Provision & Reporting

  • Own and lead global ASC 740 process and quarterly/annual tax provision
  • Oversee effective tax rate modeling and forecasting
  • Direct accounting for uncertain tax positions, deferred taxes, and valuation allowance analysis
  • Prepare and ensure timely and accurate SEC disclosures
  • Serve as primary liaison with external auditors on global provision matters
  • Support executive-level reporting and presentations

 

Close & Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Serve as primary tax leader in the financial close process in partnership with Corporate Accounting
  • Drive close calendar discipline and reporting accuracy
  • Partner with FP&A and Treasury on tax forecasting and cash impacts
  • Strengthen and support internal controls and SOX documentation

 

M&A & Strategic Support

  • Lead analysis of tax accounting implications of acquisitions and strategic transactions in close partnership with AMD's Tax Research and Planning team
  • Lead integration of acquired entities into tax reporting framework and align closely on transaction execution and post-close integration activities
  • Assess tax accounting impacts of complex deal structures
  • Provide technical analysis and develop tax position papers
  • Recommend conclusions on complex tax accounting matters and partner with Tax Research and Planning on transaction-related issues, legal entity changes, and other strategic initiatives

 

Compliance Coordination & Optimization

  • Coordinate closely with the U.S. Compliance lead, who retains direct responsibility for U.S. compliance and reports to the Senior Director
  • Support cross-functional alignment between compliance, provision, reporting, and tax operations to improve planning, transparency, and execution
  • Provide input on process improvements, resource deployment, governance, automation opportunities and AI adoption to strengthen the global tax ops function
  • Partner with the Compliance lead on readiness for audits, controversy, and evolving regulatory requirements, including areas of interaction with provision and reporting.
  • Help drive connectivity across reporting and compliance activities, identify opportunities to optimize the compliance operating model, and support effective cross-functional execution across the broader tax organization.

 

Team Leadership

  • Develop, lead and mentor tax managers
  • Implement and operationalize process transformation, automation, and AI-enabled improvements across global tax operations
  • Champion a mindset of continuous improvement and scalable growth by using AI to help the department enhance efficiency, accuracy, and capacity as the company grows
  • Strengthen bench depth across the tax organization

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Extensive, progressively responsible hands-on experience leading global tax accounting and reporting within a complex, multinational public company environment, with strong coordination across compliance functions
  • Big 4 public accounting experience required
  • Proven track record managing senior managers and multi-functional tax teams
  • Public technology company experience strongly preferred
  • Deep ASC 740 expertise
  • Strong understanding of complex global tax structures
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams
  • Cross-cultural leadership
  • Hands on experience managing provision software systems, with preference for One Source Tax Provision (OTP)

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field
  • CPA or MST required
