Applied Industrial Technologies LP is an extensive network of industrial distribution facilities located throughout Canada. We are currently seeking and have an immediate opening for a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Technical Solutions Application Specialist in Western Canada.
Job Summary
As a Technical Solutions Application Specialist, you find success on account of your entrepreneurial spirit and you will play a lead role in the development and delivery of solutions to our MRO customers. You know and understand our customers and their business and can present them with personalized solutions that solve their greatest challenges. You are a key contributor to the design of highly reliable, safe, and innovative solutions working alongside our Technical Services, Shops, and Distribution teams.
Accountabilities:
Take ownership of complex projects from concept to completion
Collaborate with teams across the organization, as well as vendors, to develop and deliver solutions to customers
Write and present technical proposals to customers
Provide support and expertise during project commissioning and aftermarket
Provide internal and external consultation on projects
Support in-house and field training of the distribution team; product & application presentations internally & externally
Stay abreast of the latest technologies while looking for opportunities to enhance Applied's products and services offerings
Participate in sales planning with Distribution team; develop sales targets and provide pricing and gross margin recommendations
Work within team to continue to build up our strengths & capabilities & incorporate efficient processes
Join sales team on customer site visits to support in identifying customer pain points & perform equipment troubleshooting, making recommendations, gathering application & equipment information, and take measurements.
Identify DVA opportunities within projects or proposed solutions and work with teams to capture this value and present to the customer for acknowledgement
Perform Quality Control of MTO machined components, drawings, or assembled products to verify their accuracy
Evaluate risk associated with incoming inquiries as well as any recommendations made, design changes, or proposed solutions provided to the customer
Develop & maintain a Technical Project Proposal standardized document that includes all pertinent data, reference material, and the Applied Value Proposition
Skills and competencies:
Mechanical Aptitude (P.Eng or CET in relevant discipline preferred)
CFPHS (Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Specialist) would be an asset
Extensive knowledge in Fluid Power or BPT (Bearing & Power Transmission) & Bulk Material Handling products (chain/belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, & equipment accessories
Demonstrated ability to use AutoCAD or 3D drafting software to develop design concepts, detail equipment retrofits, or provide visualization of machinery improvements to compliment technical proposals in effort to secure business
Natural ability to gather application information, and develop sketches of customer equipment for purpose of retrofitting equipment
Demonstrated ability to take detailed measurements of machined components with precision measuring equipment (inside/outside micrometers, vernier calipers, hardness tester, surface finish, etc.)
Ability in understanding Tolerances & fits, AGMA standards etc. and their application for the mounting of Bearings & Power Transmission components Demonstrated ability to objectively analyze manufacturers products and recommendations to determine best brand strategy before presenting to customer
Able to perform mechanical calculations including conveyor speeds & capacities, bearing loads and bearing life, chain pull, shaft material & diameter selection etc.
Thorough understanding of metals, including material grades and wear materials, heat treatment and production methods (welding & machining) as it relates to product manufacture
Demonstrated ability to manage workload, multi-task, and pivot to address emergencies or prioritize Proven ability to lead complex projects with many stakeholders involved
Sound understanding of industrial markets in Western Canada
