Role Purpose
As the Global Vice President of Strategy and Development, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving MVH's major change programs, anticipating market trends, and representing MVH on the Petcare OGSM in front of the Petcare/Mars strategy community. This position requires exceptional business acumen, strategic agility, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across MVH, Petcare, and Mars. Unlike traditional strategy roles where the focus is on the development of the strategic plan, this expanded role is expected to help turn vision into action by driving strategic progress. The VP of Strategy will make time, information, and decision-making more effective by coordinating and communicating with all departments and engineering crucial conversations. You will participate in key senior management forums, contribute to the strategy, and help articulate the MVH story.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive growth, innovation, and market leadership.
- Lead the strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide visionary leadership to anticipate and capitalize on emerging trends in the veterinary industry.
- Market Intelligence:
- Conduct in-depth market analysis and competitor research to identify opportunities and threats.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes, technological advancements, and other factors impacting the veterinary landscape.
- Translate market insights into actionable strategies to maintain our competitive edge.
- Petcare OGSM:
- Foster partnerships and collaborations with key executive stakeholders across the globe within Petcare, Mars Veterinary Health, and Business Units.
- Champion initiatives to enhance pet care, sustainability, and ethical practices within the industry.
- Drive the development of programs and initiatives that promote a holistic ecosystem of care.
- Executive Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with executive leadership, providing strategic counsel and insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and execution of strategic priorities.
- Present strategic plans and progress updates to Leadership team within Petcare and MVH.
- Communication and Facilitation:
- Facilitate strategic discussions to drive alignment and decision-making.
- Communicate strategic priorities, initiatives, and progress updates effectively across the organization.
- Act as a spokesperson for MVH with Petcare/Mars strategy, representing our vision and values to external stakeholders.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions:
- Domestic and International travel up to 30% of the time.
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
- Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
- Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
- Environment where pets are present.
Experience, Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Strategy, Veterinary Medicine, or related discipline is required; MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- 15+ years of proven experience in strategic planning, business development, and executive leadership roles within the veterinary or healthcare industry.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships across diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of driving major change and innovation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a global mindset.
