Position Summary:
Barnstable Academy is seeking a School Counselor for a leave replacement beginning in October, 2025. The School Counsleor will provide school-based counseling services to students in grades 6-12, addressing social, emotional, and academic needs. This role includes supporting students facing emotional challenges, assisting with peer conflicts, and collaborating with families, teachers, and leadership to ensure a well-rounded support system for students.
Key Responsibilities:
Counseling & Support:
Provide individual and family therapy for students in grades 6-12.
Consult with outside professionals to ensure students' needs are met.
Support teachers in identifying and addressing mental health and substance use issues.
Assist families in accessing appropriate community and school-based services.
Staff & Leadership Support:
Offer guidance to staff and leadership on managing student emotional and behavioral challenges.
Provide professional development opportunities on mental health, addiction, and effective student-teacher relationships.
Mentor students and serve as a positive role model.
Communication:
Maintain regular communication with staff, parents, and leadership regarding student progress.
Participate in student-centered meetings and staff meetings.
Address emergent behavioral issues and communicate with administration
Collaboration & Professional Development:
Collaborate with teachers and leadership to create a supportive learning environment.
Stay up to date with strategies for working with students with learning disabilities and emotional difficulties.
Participate in professional development to continuously improve counseling techniques.
Qualifications:
Bacheor's degree in Mental Health Counseling
State licensure in counseling required.
Knowledge of solution-focused therapeutic practices and adolescent mental health.
Experience in addressing school-related mental health
Strong communication and collaboration skills with a focus on proactive support.
