Barnstable Academy is an independent, college-preparatory school serving students in grades 6-12. We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated Humanities and Executive Function Teacher to serve as a long-term substitute in our 1:1 classes. 

Position Overview:


The Humanities and Executive Function Teacher will work closely with middle and high school students to deliver instruction in English and Social Studies, and provide executive functioning support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engaging instruction in humanities subjects, including English Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Assist students in improving executive function skills, including planning, initiating and prioritizing  tasks, staying organized, and managing deadlines
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to develop and implement strategies to support students with diverse learning needs
  • Adapt curriculum to accommodate different learning styles and academic needs
  • Offer personalized feedback to students and provide extra support when necessary
  • Communicate with parents/guardians to update them on student progress
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or a related field
  • Teacher certification
  • Previous experience teaching middle or high school students is preferred
  • Familiarity of strategies for students with ADHD is preferred
  • Familiarity with executive function frameworks and strategies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and accommodate students' individual needs
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for helping students succeed
