Summary of Position: 

The Maintenance Engineer (ME) reports directly to the Administrative Director of Facilities (ADOF).  The ME is responsible for maintaining the proper operation of all machinery and mechanical equipment.  The ME is assigned preventative maintenance tasks via preventative maintenance (PM) program.  The ME is responsible for completing preventative maintenance tasks on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual and in some cases on a five-year frequency and is responsible to complete them on time.  Tasks include life safety and utility criticality PMs that must be 100% complete based on the task frequency.  PM assignments also include and are not limited to utility, fire and life safety equipment that cover an array of requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic controls, digital controls, boilers, chillers, tools, pumps, electrical systems, and steam generators.  Additional requirements of the ME are the ability to following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications while troubleshooting malfunctions.  The ME is responsible for snow removal and performs repairs on patient care equipment including but not limited to beds, wheelchairs, gurneys, and nurse call systems. The ME is required to respond to hospital wide emergency codes in an efficient manner following all organizational protocols as applicable to the engineering department. 

Qualifications

Education:

• Trade School Education preferred.

• AA degree in related field preferred.

Experience:

• Two-year building/maintenance experience in a healthcare facility preferred.

• Experience with electrical systems and controls.

• Experience in plant mechanical systems such as chillers boilers, pumps and HVAC systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Understanding of Emergency backup power systems.

• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively coMEunicate.

Certifications/Licensure:

• EPA Air Conditioning and Refrigeration certification preferred.

• Valid Driver's license or ability to obtain prior to start date.

• Three-year DMV printout showing clean driving record.

Essential Functions

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

2. Performs preventative maintenance (PM) duties as requested ensuring PM's are completed in an effective and timely manner per code requirement.  Ensures paperwork for work orders and PM's are completed in an accurate manner

3. Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner.  Ensures proper functioning of equipment and follows procedure when equipment malfunctions.  Follows Operation & Maintenance (O&M) guidelines on equipment as required.

4. Performs general maintenance activities to include minor repairs on electrical equipment, plant machinery and plumbing. 

5. Performs security duties in a safe and efficient manner following all organizational protocols. Completes daily security logs as necessary, responds to emergency codes. Recognizes unusual situations and reports to the Director of Facilities. Promotes a safe environment and observes all safety and security procedures

6. Performs repairs on patient care equipment including beds, wheelchairs, gurneys, and nurses call systems.

7. Responds to on call requests in a professional and timely manner.

8. Maintains compliance with HIPAA, respects and protects the confidentiality of all protected health information

9. Maintains respects and protects the confidentiality of proprietary information and competitive intelligence.

10. Obtains, maintains, and provides documentation of completion on all required certifications and licensure prior to expiration (including Driver's license and proof of current auto insurance when applicable)

11. Operates within the confines of his/her scope of practice as determined by the knowledge, skills and ability obtained through job-related education and training and as approved by all governing, regulatory and, where appropriate, licensing authorities. 

12. Operates all snow removal equipment in an appropriate, safe manner at all times with regard to personal and hospital property. Operates and understand digital control system.

13. Completes all required departmental documentation, to include logs, forms, reports in an accurate and timely manner.

14. Performs fire drills independently and completes paperwork thoroughly.  Operates and resets fire systems and demonstrates knowledge of fire zones.

15. Operates and assists with generator and hospital utility plant needs.

16. Understands operation of gas and water shut offs, including transfers to emergency systems, performs medical gas system shutoff. 

17. Ensures all paperwork and orders for repairs are accurate, complete and timely.

18. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
