Bay Advanced Technologies (BayAT), an Applied Fluid Power subsidiary, is an automation products distributor and contract manufacturer headquartered in Newark, CA.  We are a sales-driven organization, and our customers are looking to automate more and more of their processes to keep pace with their competitors in the life science, biotech, semiconductor, and general automation space. BayAT has a wide array of capabilities, including specification, co-engineering, and custom design for our automation customers, and are looking to expand our sales reach in the San Diego Area – we currently have a requirement for an Automation Account Manager.   

  

The Automation Account Manager is an energetic, motivated individual to spearhead our sales efforts by helping existing and new customers select and deploy various pneumatic, fluidic, sensing, control, and motion solutions, at both the component and the system level.  We'll look to this individual to build relationships with customers throughout a geographical sales territory while helping them select products and turn-key solutions. 

 

This position is full-time and reports directly to the Southern California Automation Technology Group Sales Manager.  It is an individual contributor (IC) position, operating primarily in the field (customer-facing) and will require local travel - to customer sites, trade shows, and technical training events.  

 

In accordance with applicable wage transparency law requirements, the typical estimated total compensation for this position is $100,000 - $170,000 per year depending on experience. This includes salary and monthly commission after coming off a guarantee. All full-time associates are eligible for typical employment benefits expected from an industry leader (including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, life insurance, time off, employee assistance, etc.).   

 

More About Your Role 

 

The BayAT sales team is the first line of defense where technical product expertise is required to: 

  

  • Identify and penetrate new accounts, unearthing new sales opportunities 

  • Follow up and convert inbound web and supplier leads to active sales opportunities 

  • Promote/specify "sticky" automation subassemblies and PCB design services to customer base 

  • Build a territory and grow earnings by developing repeat relationships 

  • Leverage existing accounts to grow product and subassembly business 

  • Complete reports of expenses, sales activity and opportunities 

  • Prepare quotes and proposals, follow up and negotiate terms, and close transactions 

  • Monitor customer feedback, follow up on outstanding orders, and make emergency calls, and deliveries as required 

  • Use a consultative selling approach when calling on engineers, purchasing, and others to learn about customers' applications and analyze their needs 

  • Utilize product knowledge to gain spec position on OEM design projects 

  • Partner with manufacturer reps and our support team to help specify/select products/systems that will enhance customer performance 

  • Organize and conduct training sessions for customers, survey market and competitive conditions

  • Some mechanical aptitude (more is better) 

  • Experience and degree of comfort with using a CRM system 

  • Relationship-building skills 

  • Ability to multi-task 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • 6 months+ knowledge of fluid power components, systems, & applications 

  • 3+ years of sales experience in similar industries; 5+ years of industry experience 

  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record 

 

Preferred attributes: 

  • Possess a four-year college degree (engineering degree is a definite plus) OR specific sales experience with technical products 

  • Experience in the maker space or some similar hobbyist pursuits 

  • Basic understanding of some/all of the following control/mechatronic systems: 

  • Pneumatic systems (valves, cylinders, fittings, etc) 

  • Fluidics handling and conveyance (tubing, connectors, temperature/flow measurement, etc) 

  • Motors (steppers, servos, etc.) 

  • Motion control (simple single or complex multi-axis systems) 

  • Electronic sensors (photoelectric, inductive proximity, flow, laser distance, etc.) 

  • Linear motion systems (belt drive, ballscrew, leadscrew, etc.) 

  

Qualifications: 

  • Applicant will need to reside in (or relocate to) the San Diego territory 

  • Strong computer skills 

  • Comfort performing occasional hands-on product demonstrations for customers and prospects 

  

  

What we will train: 

  • How to use our CRM to track customer activity and opportunities 

  • How to mine our existing accounts for additional product and systems business 

  • How to sell end-to-end solutions by engaging with customers at the engineering level 

  • Product-specific information, from how the various products work to how to select and specify them
