Position Summary  

Bellevue College is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Program Specialist position. The Program Specialist will support students and faculty in preparation for required programmatic clinical experiences for the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) department.

This is a temporary project position and expected to end on 06/30/2024. Extension of the position pending on funding availability.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $21.43/hour - $28.61/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work 20 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department  

The Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute (HSEWI) of Bellevue College strives for excellence through our highly competent faculty and staff as well as through our enriched curriculum. HSEWI is composed of fourteen unique programs that address critical workforce needs in the region and nation. Each program focuses on providing education and training for professions in healthcare, education, and wellness.

Essential Functions  

Data & Records Management

  • Track and document student progression and interactions related to clinical placement.  
  • Collect and track academic, immunization, health insurance, background, training and any other necessary verification.  
  • Verify that faculty and students have completed necessary immunizations and site-specific training to participate in clinical placement experiences. 
  • Securely share records electronically with Work-based learning sites.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Program Manager to connect electronic record-keeping system with overall tracking of student progress through the program.

Placement Coordination

  • Maintain currency in site-specific clinical placement requirements, industry policies, health and safety standards (CDC), and compliance to Washington Administrative Codes (WACs). 
  • Interface with clinical sites throughout the on-boarding process.  
  • Maintain good standing with current clinical partners through adherence to clinical deadlines and compliancy in records, regular communication with site coordinators. 
  • Run reports in Canvas and CastleBranch and analyze that data to ensure that faculty and students meet clinical placement timelines and expectations as outlined by clinical affiliation agreements and best practice standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty supervisors in responding to student and clinical site concerns or issues related to clinical placements in an equitable manner.

Student Support 

  • Meet with students 1:1; visit classes to explain clinical requirements; respond to email, phone calls, etc., related to clinical placements. Schedule students at various clinical locations. (Nursing clinical info: (5-10 messages daily), bookings appointment availability, canvas course, phone or open office hours).
  • Assist students in navigating obstacles related to clinical placements.
  • Respond to high volume of student inquiries regarding their placement and addressing clinical requirement to mitigate lability and risk for both the student and the college. 
  • Ensure smooth transition from planning to implementing clinical student placements. Coordinate with students, faculty, and healthcare providers for clear communication and role understanding.

Teaching and Training 

  • Implement assignment outlines, on-boarding timelines, and on-line and face-to-face training for students and faculty.
  • Oversee non-credit onboarding courses within Canvas learning management system, including content updates, assignment grading, and student communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's degree. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated written expression using language appropriate to complexity of topic and knowledge and understanding of audience.
  • Experience with mitigating risk and addressing liability issues tactfully with various stakeholders. 
  • Ability to build constructive relationships with students and co-workers characterized by high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual regard.
  • Intermediate-level skills in word-processing, spreadsheets, videoconferencing.
  • Intermediate-level skills in database management.
  • Experience with analyzing large sums of data to forecast and make recommendations.
  • Strong organizational, planning priority setting and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of HSEWI programs.
  • Experience with online document management or content management systems (Sharepoint, OneDrive, Canvas).
  • Teaching or training experience.
  • Previous nursing clinical instruction experience.
