Position Summary  

Reporting to the Dean of the Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute (HSEWI), the Interim Associate Dean of Nursing provides collaborative, equity-driven leadership for the Nursing Department, advancing Bellevue College's mission, vision, and strategic plan (Be Bold) by supporting faculty excellence, ensuring instructional quality, and strengthening the pipeline of nursing professionals who serve the region.

The Interim Associate Dean directly oversees the instructional, fiscal, and personnel operations of Nursing's programs and their components: An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program; a post-licensure baccalaureate in nursing (RN-BSN) program; continuing nursing education (CNE), including registered nurse refresher (RNR) and short courses; and a Nursing Assistant, Certified program; within the Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute. The Associate Dean has budgetary authority and responsibility, recruits and hires part-time faculty, and ensures curriculum remains current and in alignment with the Washington State Board of Nursing, applicable program accreditation standards, and college requirements.

The Interim Associate Dean works closely with chairs, faculty, and staff to achieve instructional goals, and collaborates with campus stakeholders. In this role, the Interim Associate Dean advances Bellevue College's mission by fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, promoting equity and student success, and ensuring nursing programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of students, the healthcare workforce and community. 

This is an interim position and expected to end on 06/30/2027.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $118,403/year - $177,605/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $133,203/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

The Health Sciences, Education, and Wellness Institute (HSEWI) at Bellevue College offers a wide range of programs preparing students for careers and transfer pathways in healthcare, education, and wellness fields. The division includes professional/technical and transfer degrees, applied bachelor's programs and certificates that connect classroom learning with clinical, field, and community based-experiences.

HSEWI programs are distinguished by their strong ties to regional employers, schools, and healthcare providers, as well as commitment to accreditation and high professional standards. Faculty and staff emphasize inclusive, student-centered teaching and hands-on learning that equips graduates to succeeding diverse workplaces and serve the needs of their communities. Essential Functions  

Academic & Faculty Oversight 

  • Oversee curriculum development, program review, and instructional quality for the ADN, RN-BSN, CNE/RNR, and Nursing Assistant-Certified (NAC) programs, ensuring alignment with Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) standards, national nursing accreditation, and college requirements 
  • Facilitate the development of long-range goals and objectives for all nursing programs 
  • Supervise and evaluate full-time and part-time faculty  and staff, including hiring and onboarding, mentoring, performance evaluation, discipline, retention; oversee faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion processes 
  • Monitor faculty currency in curricular and clinical expertise; establish course schedules in conjunction with the chairs to optimize efficiencies and fulfill student need 
  • Lead and engage in team building among faculty and staff; develop a collaborative climate for fulfilling program, division, and college objectives 
  • Support students in resolving academic grievances; guide staff and/or faculty in the resolution of conflict

Resource & Budget Management

  • Develop, monitor, and manage the Nursing Department budget in alignment with strategic goals and state/federal guidelines, including WABON and accreditation compliance requirements 
  • Establish and monitor resource priorities, allocations, and protocols; ensure budget compliance 
  • Establish and monitor enrollment management to achieve maximum efficiency in revenue generation
  • Facilitate recruiting and hiring of part-time faculty
  • Oversee facilities, labs, clinical agreements, and instructional technology/resources
  • Provide reports for space allocation planning for programmatic needs and mission fulfillment

Strategic Leadership & Vision Implementation

  • Coordinate the development of vision and goals for Nursing in alignment with divisional, academic, and college annual priorities
  • Represent Nursing to the College, WABON, national nursing accrediting bodies, and community partners
  • Engage with state and national partners (e.g., WABON, Commission for Nursing Accreditation (CNEA), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Council on Nursing Education in Washington State (CNEWS)) to remain responsive to changing healthcare workforce needs
  • Recruit community partners for experiential learning resources, program advisory committees, and student mentoring programs
  • Serve as a collaborative institutional leader, engaging in cross-functional collaboration across Divisions

Holistic Student Success & Institutional Transformation

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies that promote equitable student access, retention, progression, and completion in nursing programs
  • Create inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments across classrooms, lab and clinical settings
  • Oversee professional development opportunities for faculty and staff to maintain and enhance competencies in educational equity and cultural competency through retreats, workshops and other professional learning opportunities
  • Facilitate the acquisition of diverse faculty and staff and oversee endeavors to recruit and retain a diverse workforce
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Possession of current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Washington state at time of hire.
  • Graduate degree in nursing and doctoral degree in nursing, health, or a related educational field, or eligibility for a Nursing Commission-approved exception supported by an institutional development plan.
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse, including two (2) years of experience in nursing education at or above the baccalaureate level.
  • Experience in curriculum development and administration. 
  • Current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate-degree level.
  • Preparation in teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, and curriculum evaluation, or two years of equivalent teaching experience in nursing education.
  • Preparation or experience in nursing or educational administration.
  • Experience supporting student success and retention.
  • Experience addressing disproportionate impact and equity issues in academic or healthcare environments.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, organization, and conflict-management skills.
  • Experience bringing people of diverse backgrounds into an effective, cohesive, and inclusive team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint.
     
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as an academic nurse administrator.
  • Experience with program-specific accreditation and compliance (e.g., Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)) for baccalaureate nursing programs.
  • Experience overseeing bachelor's degree programs or leading curriculum development for applied or transfer programs in health sciences.
  • Experience with strategic enrollment planning, grant development, or clinical/community partnerships.
  • Familiarity with ctcLink (PeopleSoft) or similar enterprise systems used in higher education.
  • Experience developing innovative programs in response to evolving community, workforce, or industry needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse colleagues and/or students in a collaborative, inclusive environment.
