Position Summary  

Under the supervision of the Wellness Center Supervisor, Open Access Fitness Technician is responsible for monitoring facility access and participant use of the Open Access Fitness Center during designated lab hours. Open Access Fitness Center lab hours are established each academic quarter based on Health and Physical Education course schedules and recommendations from the Wellness Center-Intramural Fitness Advisory Board.

This position is only opened to currently enrolled BC students.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $20.00/hour - $24.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work between 10 - 19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the Department  

The BC Wellness Center works to enhance our campus climate and enrich the quality of life on campus by fostering growth within the seven dimensions of wellness through outdoor recreation: Social, emotional, mental, physical, environmental, spiritual and occupational.  We work to provide barrier free access and instruction in a wide variety of adventure options to any and all BC students.

Essential Functions  
  • Provide excellent support services to students, staff and faculty users of Fitness Center Open Access Lab Hours.
  • Verify approved access for students, staff and faculty upon entry.
  • Provide basic exercise education, safety spotting and exercise resources provided by the Health and Physical Education (HPE) department.
  • Maintain and monitor facility safety and cleanliness. Daily cleaning responsibilities as part of shift duties, including wiping down equipment, refreshing cleaning supplies, spotting, opening and closing duties, and daily organization of lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, time management skills, an appreciation for differing viewpoints, willingness to accept responsibility, and a sincere interest in helping others.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Bellevue College's mission, values, and a sensitivity and care for students and guests from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities; and the proven ability to effectively balance academic, work, and personal responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Currently enrolled Bellevue College student in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0) and in good student conduct standing
  • Exercise education experience, with demonstrated work experience in the exercise field (e.g., personal training or exercise/movement instruction) preferred.
  • Completion of BC Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) program or able to complete PFT or equivalent program within one (1) year of start date.
  • Must be currently CPR/First Aid certified.

Additional Position Requirements:

  • This position is 100% on-campus work, there is no remote work option available. 
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision after being trained.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50lbs, multiple times per shift.
