Position Summary  

Bellevue College (BC) International Education (IE) is looking for a Program Coordinator (PC) to manage two short-term customized programs back-to-back in August 2024. The following duties are typical for this position but should not be considered all-inclusive. Duties may be changed based on management discretion and institutional needs. Primary responsibility is to prepare both programs thoroughly and deliver successful programs by actively engaging with the students to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, handling all logistics of all on- and off-campus activities, planning and facilitating themed seminars, coordinating orientation sessions and farewell ceremonies, leading all on- and off-campus activities, staying within the allotted budget, supervising a few student assistants, and briefing the IE director daily. 

Group 1:  Japanese Middle School Program 

Dates: August 2-9, 2024 Group size: 42, 9th graders, plus 7 adult chaperones  # of assistants to supervise: 2 Expected starting date: Ideally from July 1, 2024. The latest would-be July 16, 2024. Expected ending date: August 15, 2024 (end of the 2nd group) Estimated hours: Approximately 68 hours including preparation time  Expected work hours Between 8:30am and 6:00pm, several hours of break in-between) includes one evening   

Group 2:  Japanese Middle School Program 

Dates: August 9-15, 2024 Group size: 25 students, plus 3-5 adult chaperones  # of assistants to supervise 1 (may be the same assistant from Group 1)  Estimated hours: Approximately 55 hours including preparation time  Expected work hours  Between 8:30am and 6:00pm, several hours of break in-between) includes one evening

Note: These programs are semi-confirmed as of posting this announcement; however, they can be cancelled as late as 30-days before each program¿s starting date.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $20.45/hour - $25.84/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work for estimated 123 total hours including preparation for two groups, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

For Group 1- Estimated preparation hours are 25 hours
                      Estimated hours for the program deliver are 43 hours.

For Group 2- Estimated preparation hours are 20. 
                      Estimated hours for the program deliver are 35.

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department  

International Education (IE) provides support for students mainly on an F and a J visa who plan to enroll in College-credit, International High School Completion (IHSC), Bridge Pathway, International Business Professions (IBP), and Intensive English programs. IE services include international recruitment, admissions, advising, class enrollment, medical insurance related matters, student engagement and housing referrals. In addition, IE works with our partners to develop and deliver various short-term customized programs throughout the year for participants wishing to enhance their general English skills and experience rich, diverse Northwest cultures firsthand.

Essential Functions  
  • Finalize the program details such as preparing PowerPoint files, activities for the themed seminars, booking and confirming room assignments, charter bus arrangements, purchasing items, preparing for the welcome orientation sessions, campus tours as well as farewell ceremonies by preparing certificates, slide shows, etc. 
  • Punctually facilitate the daily schedule, track attendance, and conduct daily check-in with the students.
  • Actively engage with the students to create a safe and inclusive learning environment, generate enthusiasm in learning new language and cultures.
  • Stay within the allotted hours and budget and provide progress updates to the director of IE.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND one-year (1) professional work experience.
  • Be eligible and available to work on the specified dates and hours punctually. 
  • Experience in working with school-age, low-level English learners and demonstrated ability for patience and empathy for individual learning style.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities with minimal supervision and stay within allotted budget.
  • Be proficient in MS Office, especially PowerPoint, and other applications.
  • Be familiar with the greater-Seattle area.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in teaching and class management experiences for low-level English learners.
  • Experience in study or work abroad.
  • Demonstrated ability to earn trust of others with diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
