Position Summary  

The Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) is seeking student employees to support programs, events, and daily operations within the Social Justice Center. The student position assists with outreach activities, marketing, event logistics, website and newsletter updates, attendance tracking, facility support, and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive center environment.

This opportunity is open to all Bellevue College students, including work-study students, international students, and non-work-study students. 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $18.00/hour - $22.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work between 10 - 19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $19.00 / hour. 

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the Department  

The Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) primary function at Bellevue College is a cultural commitment to inclusion. We understand the root causes of inequity and disrupt behaviors that sustain systems of power through continuous learning and collaborative practices. We are responsible for compliance with policies covering discrimination, harassment, equal opportunity, and prevention.

Essential Functions  
  • Learn Social Justice Center (SJC) framework and rooted anchors for Bellevue College and provide adequate personalized and/or scripted narrative about the what the Social Justice Center (SJC) offers to the campus and wider community. 
  • Engage in supportive discussions with Director regarding ideas, themes, and opportunities for Social Justice Center (SJC) programs and administrative needs.
  • Assist with program development, ideations, attendance, and execution of Social Justice Center (SJC) programs as needed. 
  • Meet weekly with supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining Social Justice Center (SJC) B207, B215, and B255 room appearance, arrangement (soft seating, table pods, and chairs), appeal, and visual experience (curate wall art and announcement content as directed by supervisor) daily.
  • Assist in managing AV Set up/breakdown (virtual meeting spaces/platforms; power point, OWL use, WIFI, speakers, projector, TV, lights) for programs and use others noted.
  • Assist in creating graphic flyers and managing website content to promote Social Justice Center (SJC) and its programs/events as needed. 
  • Assist in creating and distributing Social Justice Center (SJC) digital newsletter, program marketing and campus spotlights of community agents around campus.
  • Manage sign-in/log-in processes, monitor program attendance, foot traffic and logistics for weekly, quarterly, or annual reports.
  • Monitor and manage the Social Justice Center (SJC) and the adjoining room (B215, and Board meeting space in B255.) 
  • Assist in monitoring, organizing, and replenishing supplies for programs, or Social Justice Center (SJC) as needed (set up, clean up, open, close, to include - welcome desk, snack and common area/restroom within spaces etc.).  
  • Support Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) Directors with supportive duties as assigned upon availability, request, as needed. 
  • Collaborate with Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) staff, campus partners, and presenters as needed.
  • Promote Social Justice Center (SJC) to student population.
  • Assist in data entry, research, marketing, flyer distribution.
  • Assist with creating graphics, newsletters, and promotional materials for SJC programs and events.
  • Assist with updating website content and maintaining online resources.
  • Familiar with MS Office, MS PPT, MS Excel, MS Teams (preferred), Canva, Involve, and Zoom.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Familiar with contextual topics such as social justice, political science, racial identity and ethnicity, multi-layered aspects of identity, ableism, anti-racism, religious belief and practice, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, etc.  
  • Ability to work effectively with other students, staff, and faculty on collaborative projects.  
  • Ability to share ideas and recommendations for programs, events, and activities that support student needs and interests.  
  • Ability to move or lift materials weighting up between 5 ¿ 50lbs. 
  • Strong organization skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines.   
  • Effective written communication skills with ability to use respectful and inclusive language.
  • Availability for providing in-person and virtual support for programs, events or meetings.
  • Experience with graphics, marketing, and website design.
  • Familiar with MS Office, MS PPT, MS Excel, MS Teams (preferred), Canva, Involve, and Zoom.
