Position Summary
The Academic Success Center (ASC) is looking for highly motivated tutors with comprehensive subject knowledge in a Professional /Technical (Prof / Tech) or Vocational program currently offered at Bellevue College, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Tutors should be proficient in their subject area, patient, empathetic, and equitable when engaging students. ASC Tutors are not instructors; they are not responsible for teaching course content or materials. This role is a permanent part time role, not a student tutor position.
This is a part-time, 10-month cyclical, permanent position working up to 16 hours per week. The individual in this role must be available during ASC operating hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Work hours will vary by quarter based on operational needs. No work will be scheduled during quarter breaks.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePay rate: $20.48/hour - $ 27.26/hour

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.
This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the DepartmentThe Academic Success Center (ASC) provides high-quality tutoring and educational resources for all students enrolled at Bellevue College. The ASC offers drop-in tutoring, workshops, and resources such as textbooks and calculators for lending. Each year the ASC serves roughly 10,000 students through in-person and online support. The goal of the ASC, its tutors, and its labs is to enable students to succeed in their studies and become independent, life-long learners.
Essential FunctionsTutoring: Provide student-centered, evidence-based academic supports and tutoring to BC Students
- Using content knowledge in combination with training materials to provide evidence-based, student-centered, active learning and academic support during the course of drop-in tutoring sessions.
- Work in-person to provide support to students (tutees) using high flex modality, support online and in-person simultaneously.
- Monitor Microsoft Teams Channel to direct online students to proper tutors (as needed).
- Provide culturally responsive, student-centered academic and learning support to students, ensuring a positive learning experience for students and visitors in the ASC.
Mentorship
- Serve as a role model and mentor for trainee student tutors.
- Model high-impact, evidence-based, student-centered tutoring.
- Assist students in finding appropriate ASC services.
- Answer student questions about college experience, and workforce, referring students to campus resources to answer questions specific to Bellevue College.
Outreach and special event support
- Support ASC Staff in conducting class visits, or staffing information tables during campus events or classroom visit requests.
- Speak to groups of prospective students touring the ASC.
- Assist with special events inside and outside of the ASC.
Complete required trainings
- Complete CRLA tutor training (provided by ASC).
- Complete required HR trainings, some are required annually.
- Complete digital literacy coach training (provided by the ASC).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree or higher in Accounting, Business Management, Business Analysis and Technology Digital Marketing, Marketing, Digital Media Arts, Software Development, or Nursing.
- Degree GPA of 3.2 or above with A, A-, or B+ grades in topics anticipated to be tutored.
- Ability to gain approval for each course / subject you plan to tutor.
- Minimum three (3) months' work experience in one of the above career fields or a closely related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft products, including MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Previous work experience with adult education including tutoring, class-assisting, and other similar experiences.
- Demonstrated experience working with all learners at post-secondary institutes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty using verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students across different academic, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, adapt approaches, and engage in ongoing learning and professional growth.
- Ability to provide in-person support in a high-flex learning environment, including supporting online and in-person students simultaneously.
- Ability to work as a tutor for a minimum of three (3) academic quarters, including Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027.
Special requirements
This position is grant-funded and must support grant-eligible Professional/Technical programs at Bellevue College. To meet the conditions of the funding source, applicants must demonstrate academic or professional preparation in at least one eligible subject area, including Accounting, Business Management, Business Analysis and Technology, Digital Marketing, Marketing, Digital Media Arts, Software Development, Nursing, or a closely related field.
Applicants must also be eligible to receive ASC approval to tutor at least one grant-eligible course or subject area based on their education, training, experience, and/or academic record.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience tutoring, mentoring, teaching, coaching, class-assisting, or supporting adult learners in a post-secondary, vocational, or workforce-training environment.
- Experience supporting neurodivergent learners and/or students with disabilities using strengths-based, student-centered approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt academic support using Universal Design for Learning, accessibility, or other inclusive learning frameworks.
- Familiarity with student development theory, adult learning theory, education theory, learning science, or evidence-based tutoring practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to growth mindset, culturally responsive support, and helping students build confidence, independence, and lifelong learning skills.
- Experience supporting Professional/Technical, vocational, or career-connected students.
- Experience mentoring, training, or modeling professional practice for peers, student employees, or emerging tutors.
