PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION   

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Nursing to plan, organize, develop, and direct the operation of the specific unit, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines, and as directed by the Director of Nursing Operations to assure that the highest degree of resident care can be maintained at all times. Participates in resident/tenant and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in a clinical setting. Represent the unit by serving on, participating in, and attending various committees as required by administration.  

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES  

Duty 1: Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care to provide for their unique physical and emotional needs of each resident. Also, assumes the lead in the discharge planning, development, and implementation of resident care plans, resident assessments, and family meetings. Participate in facility surveys made by authorized governmental agencies.  

Duty 2: Develop and maintain written policies and procedures that reflect current standards of practice as well as ongoing quality assurance programs for the nursing department.  

Duty 3: Assist the DON in identifying any potential exposure to blood/body fluids within their unit. Ensure adequate supply of PPE, ensure nursing areas, resident care rooms, and treatment areas are clean and sanitary.  

Duty 4: Assumes and demonstrates accountability and leadership in the performance of directing the nursing service department to ensure quality of resident care and promotion of team collaboration.  

Duty 5: Determine staffing needs and levels of the nursing department necessary to meet the needs of the residents.  

Duty 6: Assist in developing performance evaluation criteria for nursing department.  

Duty 7: Schedule daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being me in accordance with resident needs.  

Duty 8: Monitor medication and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. Monitor and review falls, pressure ulcers, weight loss, and decrease ALD's. Attend risk management meetings.  

Duty 9: Develop and implement an effective nursing orientation program as well as on-going in-service training for staff that provides information necessary to maintain quality of care.  

Duty 10: Attend education programs to maintain knowledge of current standards of care/practice. Communicate information to nursing staff as needed.  

Duty 11: Monitor and stay within the parameters of the nursing budget for individual units.  

Duty 12: Displays service excellence as evidenced by practicing the mission, vision, and values of the organization to promote resident satisfaction.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing and current RN Ohio registration.  

  • Maximum exposure in regard to universal precautions .  

  • Possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and nonprofessional personnel.  

  • Have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.  

  • Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.  

  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal a nd communication skills .  

  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status .  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures .  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to lift 50 pounds or more. This position requires individuals to lift work above the Shoulder. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks.  

This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood bor ne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
