PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

Performs day-to-day maintenance of interior surfaces including decoration of new facilities, renovating existing facilities, equipment or furniture. Paints, stains, hangs wall covering, lays floor coverings, obtains quotes, coordinate and monitor projects under the direction of the Construction Manager. Performs other duties as assigned related to renovating and maintenance.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Adheres to BVHS's policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Duty 2: Ensures a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Duty 3: Follow ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) process.  Obtain ICRA permit from Infection Control Preventionist, post ICRA permit, construct ICRA barriers, notify EVS for cleaning after construction is complete, remove ICRA barriers after white glove testing is complete and passed.

Duty 4: Ability to perform painter duties and assist in carpenter duties.

Duty 5: Function as general contractor for self-performed and/or subcontracted construction and repair/maintenance projects including estimating the project cost, establishing the project completion timeline and communicating construction activities to management. 

Duty 6: Construction project site preparation and coordination.  Examples include getting outside contractors badged, making sure proper parties have access to the job site, setting up the ICRA barriers, working with managers to get furniture and equipment moved, etc. 

Duty 7: Recognize the need for Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and notify Fire Safety Specialist in the event construction activities would require an ILSM.

Duty 8: Arrange for miscellaneous inspections and testing as needed.

Duty 9: Assesses and maintains architectural appearance of both hospitals and satellite facilities including rental properties.

Duty 10: Accepts and responds to emergencies, codes, fire, and disasters.

Duty 11: Performs related duties and responsibilities as required or directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of 3 consecutive years of industrial/commercial/residential contracting experience.
  • Maintains skill level with appropriate training and uses various methods to ensure continual improvement.
  • Licensed (or ability to become licensed) to install fire stopping.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Ability to read blue prints and drawings.
  • Experience in estimating cost of construction projects and completion times.
  • Minimally skilled in Excel, Word and pdf softwares.
  • Working knowledge of infection control methods and ability to setup ICRA barriers.
  • At times, may be required to work any shift and weekends
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good knowledge of different types of construction materials and methods.
  • Experience in fabricating laminate and/or solid surface countertops.
  • Trained in proper usage, handling and disposal of various materials and chemicals (including adhesives, lacquer thinner, lead, paint, varnish, epoxy, joint compound etc.)
  • Good knowledge of erecting scaffolding.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. The individual must be able to lift up to seventy-five pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The associate must have excellent eye-hand coordination. This associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks.
