PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the FNE program, recruitment, hiring and orientation of applicants. Research and update curriculum ensuring current practice. To improve the quality of care received by victims of violent crimes through direct and indirect patient care, professional and public education, consultation, development of standards and protocols, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Responsible for coordination of recruitment and orientation to the FNE program
Duty 2: Functions as a role model in patient care, provides a high level of clinical expertise by selecting and preparing nurses for the Forensic Nurse Examiner role.
Duty 3: Participates in programs to promote recruitment, retention and development of FNE program.
Duty 4: Collects statistical data for FNE program.
Duty 5: Prepares the budget and grant in collaboration with the Grant writing department.
Duty 6: Acts as a 24 hour on-call resource to program participants.
Duty 7: Testifies in court as an expert and assist other Forensic Nurses in preparing for court testimony.
Duty 8: Works collaboratively with law enforcement, prosecutors, Attorney General's Office and local victim services.
Duty 9: Maintains ongoing collaborative relationships within the Emergency Department and all departments throughout the Health System.
Duty 10: Works within the community to educate on FNE program and education on violent crimes.
Duty 11: Participates in long range planning, goal setting, and program development.
Duty 12: Takes SANE on call hours, including holiday and weekend rotation.
Duty 13: Provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assault victim.
Duty 14: Catalyzes and facilitates change to enhance professionalism, efficiency, competency and cost containment within the FNE program
Duty 15: Responsible for receiving and coordinating subpoenas directed to FNE team in collaboration with the risk management department.
Duty 16: Daily Contacts with employees, patients, family members, visitors, medical staff, volunteers, students as well as the general public
Duty 17: Performs other related duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
- BSN
- Three to five years of emergency department experience as RN.
- Completed an approved sexual assault nurse examiners program and functioned as a sexual assault nurse examiner for acute cases.
TNCC Certification (within one year of hire)
ACLS Certification (within 6 months of hire)
PALS Certification (within 6 months of hire)
BLS Certification (within 6 months of hire)
- Travel to Bluffton Hospital for patient care.
- A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
- Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department.
- The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.
- Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

- SANE-A/P Certification
- Master's degree
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. This position is required to lift up to 50lbs.
This position is classified at risk for possible occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
