
Description
The Set Builder (Set Carpenter) is responsible for constructing and installing temporary environments for photography, video, and in-store simulations. From simple wall builds to complex multi-room sets and faux store environments, you will bring creative concepts to life through expert carpentry and problem-solving. This role requires strong craftsmanship, physical stamina, and the ability to collaborate with set designers and production teams in a dynamic studio environment

Key Skills for Success
Core Competencies & Expertise
- Build, assemble, and install set structures such as modular wall panels, doors, windows, flooring, and other architectural elements.
- Collaborate with set designers to translate design concepts into physical builds (often without formal blueprints).
- Manage and maintain the onsite woodshop, ensuring tools and materials are organized, safe, and operational.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on reusable set pieces and modular elements.
- Uphold and model safety standards in all builds and shop operations.
Preferred Competencies & Skills
- Support offsite shoots by transporting, assembling, and breaking down set builds.
- Apply strong problem-solving skills to adapt builds in real time.
- Flexibility to shift between studio builds and occasional offsite assignments.
- Attention to detail in craftsmanship and finishing.
- Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with designers and production staff
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of carpentry, set construction, or related experience.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry tools, materials, and safe practices.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable working on your feet and handling heavy equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
