Status:  Part-Time No Benefits

Salary Range:  $23.96 - $33.17 per hour depending on experience; opportunity to receive additional pay for learning additional modalities

We are looking for a Radiologic Technologist willing to learn Mammography and/or MRI within 6 months of hire.

Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an ARRT approved/accredited program in Radiologic Technology 

Certificates/License: Valid, current State of Iowa Permit to Practice and ARRT certification or registry eligible

Experience: Hospital based experience preferred.

Position Summary: Required to do CT.  Able to cross train into Bone Density, Mammography and MRI.  Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of the human body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the Radiologist. Moves x-ray equipment into specified positions and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors. Explains procedure to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Monitors accessory equipment and assist the physician special radiographic procedures. Perform the described duties in the primary work area and demonstrate competency in orthopedic radiology, pediatric radiology, trauma radiology and diagnostic radiology.  In addition to meeting competency requirements for work in more than one primary work area must serve as a super user for various radiology initiatives.

Duties Include:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the age of the patient served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department (refer to the Scope of Practice and Staffing guidelines in the department Plan of Care).

  2. Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. Follows Policies and Procedures of Hospital and Department.

  3. Practice ALARA to minimize radiation to patient and staff. Practice good Quality Control. 

  4. Assist department in developing new protocols and imaging techniques (digital imaging, PACS) for use in diagnostic radiology. Able to assist with clerical duties of the department. Computer literacy attainable.

  5. Match appropriate paperwork for interpretation. Charge radiographic procedures, able to modify orders. Understands and uses PACS systems. Conduct scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work area or shift.

  6. Provide education and training to affiliated radiology technology student programs.

  7. Assist with patient transportation as necessary.

  8. Maintain effective communication with all levels of supervision and staff.

Typical Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to move about the facility in the care of patients and moving of equipment. Must be able to bend to the floor and reach overhead, balance, climb, lift, push, pull, walk, stand, crouch, twist and turn while obtaining equipment and supplies or in assisting in patient cares involving walking or positioning. Verbal and auditory acuity sufficient for over the telephone reporting of patient condition reports, hearing patients' verbal requests and auditory equipment alarms. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and other conversations.

Typical Working Conditions: Employees are subject to the risks inherent to working in a critical access hospital environment, including exposure to inside environmental conditions, chemicals, infectious and contagious diseases, and exposure to unpleasant elements. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances such as emergency or crisis situations. Environment may cause high stress levels due to interruptions, high volume, urgency of issues, and interactions with a wide variety of personalities and departments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and the risk of radiation exposure. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
