Salary Scale: $15.48-$19.27

POSITION SUMMARY : Responsible for maintaining reception desk activities, including greeting, scheduling, and instructing patients and visitors in accordance with BCH customer service standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Punctual regular attendance.
  • Maintains performance in compliance with State & Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Participates in department staff meetings and hospital wide in service programs as required.
  • Maintains appropriate working relationships with physicians, staff and patients.
  • Schedules appointments according to pre-set physician guidelines and maintains physician practice needs.
  • Enters patient information into computer and updates demographic and insurance information after patient verification process at each office visit.
  • Uses multi line telephone system including answering and screening calls. Takes accurate telephone messages and promptly gives information to appropriate parties.
  • Communicates patient arrival to appropriate staff.
  • Keeps reception area and lobby in order and free of safety hazards.
  • Directs patients to other areas of the clinic or hospital.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Qualified individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be computer literate and have outstanding customer service skills.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical working conditions include sitting at a desk for extended periods of time while working on a computer or talking on the phone. Work is performed in a reception area and involves contact with patients. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Requires working under stressful conditions.

Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and other conversations.
