The Senior Counsel – Labor & Employment role will report to the Assistant General Counsel – Litigation. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with all types of pre-litigation and litigation matters related to labor and employment issues. This role will be expected to provide advice, counsel, and training to internal clients across the Brink's NORTAM organization on issues related to labor and employment law and best practices. This position will also be responsible for managing responses related to litigation and administrative matters (e.g. EEOC, DOL, DOT, OSHA, NLRB, and similar), both through direct representation of the company and the supervision of outside counsel and other internal resources.
Additionally, this role may be asked to support all facets of Brink's litigation across North America, including assisting with all types of litigation matters, disputes, and claims handled by the Brink's legal team, such as commercial, contract, vehicle accidents, and personal injury. The role is also responsible for advising, and liaising with, the Brink's Risk Department in connection with the management of workers' compensation related claims, disputes, and litigation.
Major Responsibilities:
Serve as trusted in-house legal adviser on labor and employment matters
Manage designated employment matters (ranging from low to high complexity) with minimal supervision and guidance, including strategy development and disciplined risk analysis
Collaborate with internal counsel and business stakeholders, and actively engage with and manage outside counsel, including outside counsel spend
Assist with regulatory investigations and other government enforcement matters
Actively review company activities and legislative/regulatory developments to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Advise on day-to-day employment matters, providing legal advice to the internal departments, including Operations and HR, to proactively identify and appropriately mitigate risk to drive the best outcomes for Brink's
Perform special projects assigned by the NORTAM General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel – Litigation
Appear for the company at mediations, hearings, trials, etc., as necessary (travel time up to 10%)
Direct paralegal and other legal support staff, as necessary
Help legal team provide regular and structured reporting and analysis of open or threatened litigation matters to internal stakeholders
Assist in drafting and reviewing company policies and HR-related communications
Assist in preparing and delivering training on legal issues

Education and Experience
Requires an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university and a J.D. (doctor of jurisprudence) degree from an accredited law school
At least 6 years' experience in employment law, including demonstrated experience with handling litigation tasks (such as brief writing, motion practice, and courtroom appearances)
Experience working as in-house counsel or in a mid-to-large size law firm

Experience interfacing with representatives of governmental/regulatory authorities
Experience with NLRB and California employment laws
Experience handling workers' compensation matters
Experience defending contract interpretation lawsuits
Located near Dallas, Texas or Richmond, Virginia
