As an AVID Teacher you will have the ability and know-how to address the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) framework and philosophy to support student achievement for all, will assist students with college and career readiness, and align their professional mission and vision to the AVID mission.

How You Will Impact Education

Instruction/Education Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (AVID students, families, Counselors, the AVID Coordinator, School Leadership Team, and Teachers) to develop strong relationships and impact instruction, systems, culture, and leadership schoolwide.
  • Well-respected teacher leader who uses data to inform instruction.
  • Works alongside the AVID Coordinator using the recruitment criterion for selecting students for the AVID Elective and holding interviews with the site team.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for AVID students' achievement.
  • Collect and analyze AVID student data and regularly monitor AVID students' academic progress.
  • Advocate for AVID students' access to and success in rigorous courses.
  • Teach and promote the use of WICOR instructional strategies across content areas.
  • Culturally responsive practitioner who is committed to eliminating opportunity disparities.
  • Collaborate with tutors to effectively implement the tutorial process.
  • Attend summer institute, PATH, national conferences, regional trainings and other professional development opportunities and trainings required to increase AVID knowledge and systems of support for AVID students.

School/Community Relations

  • Strives to establish cooperative relations and makes reasonable effort to communicate with parents/guardians when appropriate.
  • Communicates clearly, consistently, and positively with parents via all appropriate mediums. Cooperates with members of the administration, other staff and with CSUSA.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student records. Participates in parent communication activities.
  • Participates in extracurricular activities to ensure a positive school culture and provide support for students and staff (as required)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Florida Department of Education License or ability to obtain one with an endorsement area in secondary (6-12) certified area.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the areas of lesson development, differentiation of rigor, reading and writing processes and strategies, language acquisition, culturally relevant teaching practices, and collaboration and organizational structures.
  • Knowledge of best practices in virtual teaching and learning in a synchronous and asynchronous environment, with Canvas learning management system experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates reliability, independence, leadership qualities and interpersonal relationship skills necessary to work effectively as a team with students, teachers, tutors, administrators across two different school sites.
  • Successful teaching experience in a culturally diverse community and evidence of engaging social emotional and academic learning (SEAL) approaches to learning
  • Willingness to participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities with local AVID staff and AVID Center through online virtual training and AVID Center Summer Institute training.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
