GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of a technical superior, performs supervisory work in directing the repair and maintenance of automotive and related equipment. Work involves responsibility for diagnosing, assigning, supervising, and participating in the repair and maintenance of general and special purpose automotive equipment. Work assignments arise in the form of oral instructions or written orders setting forth a complaint with respect to the operating conditions of the equipment. Supervision is exercised over a large staff of skilled and semiskilled mechanics. Work is reviewed by observing the effectiveness of results accomplished. Performs other work as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and five years of journeyman level experience as an automotive mechanic (5 years journeyman level = 7 years of experience).

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Must have a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification. Position(s) of this classification may require possession of a Louisiana Commercial Driver's license (CDL) Class A, B, or C (with appropriate endorsements) at the time of application, upon the date of appointment, or within the six-month probationary period. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
