GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the administrative direction of the Assistant Program Administrator - Head Start performs highly responsible professional administrative and supervisory work directing the activities of a Head Start center. Work involves responsibility for the planning, development, and operation of a Head Start Center which includes the daily operation and maintenance of a Head Start Center building. Work includes ensuring requirements of federal, state, and local government regulatory agencies are met. Responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising staff engaged in the social, emotional, intellectual, and psychological growth of preschool-aged children that align with Head Start Performance Standards. Supervision is exercised over professional and sub-professional employees assigned to the center. Performs other work as requested. Note: Most employees within this classification are paid an hourly rate and work ten (10) months or less a year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or higher in child development, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field and one year of experience in an early learning center or comparable setting.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any bachelor's degree or higher with at least 12 semester (18 quarter) hours in child development, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field and two years of experience in an early learning center or comparable setting.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Employee(s) of this class are required to possess within one year of employment, CPR-First Aid Certification, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Observer Reliability Certification, Teaching Strategies GOLD Reliability Certificate, and the online Childcare Education Institute (CCEI) Director's Certificate. Employees of this class are also required to successfully complete fifteen hours of mandatory Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) Childcare training.
OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50 pounds. Position(s) in this classification require data entry and proficiency in other computer software programs.
