GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a Librarian or a library technician of a higher classification, assists in professional library tasks of copy cataloging, circulation, programming and reference duties. In addition to performing the primary duties of Library Technician I, a Library Technician II has duties including but not limited to supervision of library technicians of a lower classification, library pages, clerical staff and community service workers. A Library Technician II may also work in the Library Business Office performing business office functions. Work is reviewed for adherence to established practices while in progress and upon completion of projects. Performs other work as requested. Note: Some employees within this classification are hired on a part-time basis and paid at an hourly rate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in paraprofessional library work.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Equivalent higher education from an accredited school of library and information science may substitute for work experience.

EXAMINATION
Professional examination required (may take up to 3 hours from test start time). Subject areas and other exam preparation information are available at: https://www.brla.gov/261/Examination-Preparation. Examinations are available on most Tuesdays, 8:30 – 9:00 am, check-in, Thursdays, *12:00 - 12:30 pm, and Fridays, 8:30 – 9:00 am check-in. Please call Human Resources Recruiting and Examination at 389-3132 to confirm testing dates and times. Test check-in is on a first come-first served basis. There are occasions where the test room is filled to capacity and applicants are asked to return on another day for testing. Picture identification, proof of social security number and a completed online employment application are required for test room admittance. *Where exam volume is expected to be high, check-in of applicants may begin as early as 11:30 am in order to complete the check-in process prior to the required 12:30 cut-off time.
