Join our team as a Crew Leader for Planting Operations South and play a vital role in growing Edmonton's urban forest! By joining the Parks and Urban Forestry branch, you will contribute directly to the City's environmental targets and help shape the green canopy of our city for generations to come.

As the Planting Operation South Crew Leader, you will provide essential leadership to field staff dedicated to tree planting initiatives. During the summer, your focus will be on the direct supervision of crews, ensuring that planting activities are performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. In the winter months, your role shifts toward critical planning and forecasting to prepare for the upcoming planting season. You will be responsible for building work plans, determining planting locations, and coordinating the necessary labor and equipment. This role is instrumental in ensuring our forestry operations align with the City Plan and environmental goals. You will also act as a key problem-solver, navigating utility conflicts and logistical challenges to keep our crews productive.

What will you do?

  • Provide daily instruction, supervision, and hands-on leadership to work crews in the field.
  • Develop annual and seasonal work plans, including determining planting locations and building crew schedules.
  • Ensure all field staff strictly adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards and environmental protocols.
  • Manage ground disturbance activities and solve complex site-specific utility conflicts.
  • Lead performance management, coaching, and mentoring for team members to foster a supportive work environment.
  • Coordinate fleet, equipment, and materials daily to meet service requirements.
  • Professionally communicate and address the needs of community partners and interested parties.
  • Review and approve timecards, maintain worksite logs, and complete reports on finished work.
  • Performing other related duties as required
