Description

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, Edmonton Police Service, the Executive Director of Corporate Communications Division is responsible for leading and coordinating the internal and external communication and public engagement activities of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). This includes overseeing the development of the internal and external Communication and Engagement Strategies, strengthening two way communication with the public and community partners, and providing senior executive level recommendations that support transparency, trust, and meaningful public dialogue.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing oversight to the Corporate Communications and Partnership and Stakeholder Divisions.
  • Providing oversight to the Media Relations and Public Affairs, Digital Content and Marketing and Partnership and Stakeholder teams  
  • Providing strategic direction and executive management including establishing objectives, monitoring standards of performance, setting priorities, and final approval of policies, procedures, and working processes.
  • Attracting, developing, evaluating, and retaining appropriate high-caliber employees, and fostering a healthy and positive work environment that promotes respect, professionalism, and quality client service.
  • Planning for and responding to ongoing and changing trends, demands, and organizational needs – and ensuring that EPS external communications and relationships are well aligned with community.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, consistent, and effective communication of information to/from the Chief, Chief of Staff and Chief's Committee.
  • Assisting the Chief, Chief of Staff, and Chief's Committee in communications and stakeholder relations.
  • Leading communication projects on behalf of the Chief and Chiefs Committee ensuring appropriate members of the EPS are contributors.
  • Elevating communication or reputational issues to the Chief of Staff which the Chief should be aware and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk.
  • Development of public and community engagement strategies that inform and advance the strategic and operational goals of EPS.
  • Participating as an active member of Chiefs Committee and the Senior Leadership Group and accordingly contributing to corporate level decision-making.
