Description

Are you a finance professional with a knack for leadership and a passion for project integrity? The City of Edmonton is looking for a Financial Support Team Lead to guide a dedicated team within our Integrated Infrastructure Services department. 

In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for complex financial structures, ensuring our projects are set up for success from day one. We are looking for a collaborative leader who can balance technical accounting excellence with a service-based approach to support our diverse project teams

What will you do?

  • Supervise and develop a team of staff responsible for project setup and financial transaction processing
  • Serve as the go-to expert for project cost structures, providing direction to program and project managers on complex financial questions
  • Oversee the lifecycle of project financials, from initial setup to the fulfillment of commitments, while ensuring compliance with established policies
  • Resolve intricate issues related to project cost variances, payment discrepancies, and contract reviews
  • Work closely with internal collaborators across various branches, including Finance, Law, and Procurement, to refine how projects are tracked and reported
  • Analyze financial data to prepare management-level reports and dashboards that guide forecasting and resource requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or a related financial discipline
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial experience
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience is required

Assets:

  • Experience working within a large, multidisciplinary public sector environment
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, specifically SAP Ariba and various SAP modules (Project Systems, Procurement, Finance)

Skills required for success:

  • Deep understanding of accounting, project management, and procurement principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead a team effectively
  • Analytical and research skills to investigate financial anomalies and implement process improvements
  • Ability to balance technical accounting requirements with the practical needs of business areas

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This is primarily a sedentary office position involving sitting, standing, and walking
  • The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with constant deadline pressures

Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $45.611 - $57.269 (Hourly); $80,355.18 - $100,893.66 (Annually)
