Description

Looking for a great place to work? A place where our culture means safety, respect, quality and excellence and putting our customer's interests ahead of our own? Then think City of Edmonton, City Operations.

We are looking for people across all our rich diversity to Help educate Edmontonians about home composting.

Feed your passion for sustainable living, soil, nature, and helping people. Seize this opportunity to engage visitors, families, gardeners, and volunteers at Compost School. Inspire folks to compost at home, to feed the soil, to reduce waste, and to help Edmonton's waste system.

The City of Edmonton is looking for a passionate professional to lead Compost School. In this role you will learn the breadth and depth of Edmonton's waste system and how residents can reduce, reuse, and recycle. You will oversee day-to-day operations of this interpretive site while engaging residents - virtual and in-person - about all aspects of composting and reducing food waste.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and outreach of Compost School and compost demonstration sites
  • Engage visitors and passers-by at Compost School or compost demonstration sites as well as public inquiries and help them with questions relating to home composting, city composting, and Edmonton's waste system
  • Develop and implement opportunities for residents to learn about home composting, city composting, and using compost
  • Ensure that workers at Compost School (volunteers, volunteer groups, and staff) have the appropriate supervision and training to work safely and effectively for their roles
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement learning opportunities, special events, workshops, and presentations on home composting and dealing with grass, leaves, plants, branches, food scraps, and other compostable items
  • Plan, coordinate, and organize information to ensure that Compost School fulfills its mission and mandate while cooperating with internal and external partners (e.g. Edmonton Native Plant Group, John Janzen Nature Centre)
  • Sustain ongoing partnerships in the community that support Compost School
  • Support continuous improvement of the home composting programs, including determining performance measures, collecting data, compiling reports, evaluating performance, and reporting on the facility
