As a Nursery Worker, you will play a vital role in the daily operations of the Old Man Creek Nursery, ensuring the health and vitality of our diverse plant collection.
Reporting to the Nursery Crew Leader, this Permanent Nursery Worker position is responsible for maintaining and inventorying containerized plants held at the Nursery, assisting the Nursery Gardener in propagation work, and making deliveries of plant material to naturalization programs. In this role, you will provide expertise in horticultural practices, mentor unskilled laborers, and ensure the quality of work completed. You will also be involved in irrigation maintenance, and general nursery upkeep. Winter work will include propagation, pruning of field trees, and clearing of snow and ice from the Nursery site.
What will you do?
- Provide field-level mentorship and oversight to unskilled laborers, demonstrating best practices in plant maintenance, equipment use, and quality assurance
- Manage inventory and assess plant health, ensuring accurate records and timely escalation of concerns
- Perform skilled and semi-skilled labor to support the growth and care of plant material, including pruning, transplanting, irrigation, and equipment operation
- Conduct general nursery tasks, such as infrastructure maintenance, routine inspections, and bird-deterrent procedures
