Description

The Planner II is a member of a professional planning team working within a multi-disciplinary environment, which is accountable for the delegated responsibility of decision making and problem resolution. The Planner II works with front-facing, e-mail and telephone customers daily and conducts reviews and renders decisions on Development Permit applications in accordance with the Zoning Bylaw, including statutory plans and relevant legislation. 

What will you do?

  • Provide information and advice to front facing customers through the Development process
  • Respond to inquiries, either directly or referred to by the Program Manager, which are usually complex, political or may draw media attention, from a variety of sources
  • Provide advice and mentor to Planner I's, Planning Technician staff, including zoning regulation interpretations, and development review intake and review procedures
  • Review and render decisions on a variety of development permit proposals that may be more difficult and complex, based upon the understanding of zoning regulations, statutory plans, Provincial legislation, and established planning principles. This may include commercial, industrial, and residential development proposals
  • Problem resolution - balancing and resolving a range of often conflicting interests and goals (i.e. City interests, interests of the public, and of applicants). This includes negotiating with applicants to achieve City policies and objectives resulting in high standards of development
  • Project manage the development review process for assigned development permit applications
  • Liaise with and coordinate development reviews with other civic departments and outside agencies
  • Conduct site analysis inspections as required
  • Participate with Planner II's and Program Managers in providing commentary of proposed Zoning Bylaw Amendments as it relates to successful implementation
  • Contribute and participate in ongoing process improvement meetings and committees as required
  • Perform other related duties
