Description

As a Planning Technician I, you will report to the Parkland Management Planning Technician II, and be responsible for delivering permitting and agreement services for parkland activities. We are looking for an individual who is motivated to make use of innovative approaches that will enable citizens, and local businesses, to access parkland permits and agreements.

  • Assess permit and license applications to ensure compliance with submission requirements, track and monitor requests for information. Intake, review and render decisions on vending permits, parkland access permits and maintenance agreements
  • Apply knowledge of City bylaws such as Parkland Bylaw C2202 and Edmonton Zoning Bylaw 20001
  • Coordinate and collaborate  with internal stakeholders to support an integrated approach to permitting  or licensing processes, including the tie between elements such as development permits, project contracts,  business licencing, civic and neighbourhood events, and operations and maintenance activities
  • Review and research zoning and park use to evaluate and ensure application compliance with applicable bylaws, acts and regulations
  • Provide internal and external stakeholders with knowledgeable and timely responses to inquiries on their application status, permit decisions and parkland related inquiries requiring response from Parkland Management Convey complex information and planning processes/procedures  to citizen and community organizations in a clear and concise manner
  • Develop and prepare reference documents used by the Unit including but not limited to: Guidelines, Best Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and take the initiative to identify process improvements related to the occupation and temporary use of parkland
  • Contribute to the established filing structure, database and tracking system for all Parkland Management project files
  • Other duties of this role include regulatory interpretation skills, and records management/ lifecycle monitoring of issued permits and agreements
  • Perform other related duties as required
