The EPS is recruiting for (1) full-time permanent Communications Officer (PIO II) position within the Public Affairs Unit. The communication officer within this unit will have duties that include:
- Planning, managing, and implementing public relations strategies, including but not limited to special events, community liaison initiatives, and educational campaigns.
- Researching and/or contributing to communication products, such as news releases, briefing documents for senior leadership, Q&A documents, fact sheets, brochures, annual reports, etc. for internal and external audiences.
- Working with other areas within the Corporate Communications Division (the Media Relations Unit, Digital Media Unit and Partnership and Stakeholder Development Branch) to ensure an integrated approach to communications that aligns with EPS' strategic goals.
- Assisting with EPS' web and online presence, including coordinating and developing content on the EPS webpage and intranet sites in conjunction with internal and external partners.
- Planning, organizing, and executing press conferences for major corporate announcements, including coordinating with external stakeholders, preparing key messages, backgrounders, news releases, etc. and briefing all participants.
- Coordinating major internal and external public education campaigns, including needs assessments, development and placement of media buys, creative briefs, collateral, and other materials to satisfy communication goals.
- Working with external partners such as community groups, non-profits, and public agencies; this includes occasional inter-governmental work.
- Experience preparing and coaching spokespeople for public and press events.
- Supporting media relations day-to-day work.
- Participating in the after hours on-call rotation and call-out for crisis communications.
