The Edmonton Valley Zoo is seeking a dedicated Team Lead to oversee site operations, ensuring the grounds and facilities remain vibrant, safe and well maintained year round.  Based out of the Edmonton Valley Zoo and reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position sets the direction for annual and long term maintenance planning pertaining to all aspects of attraction and parks facility site services.

What will you do

  • Lead the site services team by recruiting, coaching, and mentoring staff to create a culture of growth and professional excellence
  • Develop annual site services unit work plans, determining service level requirements, managing and deploying the associated labour, equipment and financial resources required to implement the work plan 
  • Ensure vibrant and safe park grounds through varied horticulture displays, turf and vegetation management, seasonal snow removal, and general grounds maintenance
  • Coordinate with various internal business areas and community partners to provide site services support in infrastructure maintenance, custodial services, pest control, special event delivery, site security, animal well-being projects, landscaping services and more
  • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and supplies through effective inventory management
  • Support strategic planning in collaboration with the Zoo's leadership team and actively participate in high level planning such as master plan(s), capital development projects and implementation plans 
  • Promote a safe work environment through coordinating the Occupational Health and Safety requirements for the Edmonton Valley Zoo and associated facilities, including the required documentation and communication related to hazard assessments, inspections, incidents, safety meetings, SOP's, and site specific issues
  • Support the City of Edmonton environmental management system through pollution prevention, regulatory compliance and continual improvement with the Enviso team
  • Support continued implementation of industry best practices pertaining to Zoo & JJNC site operations, maintenance, safety, physical facilities, etc in adherence to CAZA, AZA, and WAZA accreditation standards
  • Explain and interpret related City of Edmonton agreements, bylaws and policies to employees, contractors and the public
  • Provide minor site maintenance and support to various associated Arts, Heritage and Nature Experiences attractions including the John Janzen Nature Centre, City Arts Centre, Prince of Wales Armouries and John Walter Museum 
  • Support and attend various meetings as a participant, resource, organizer/chair and record and distribute meeting results, and follow up on assigned action items
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient problem solving strategies in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
