As a Scheduling Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring our transit network runs smoothly by supporting the technical preparation of route schedules. You will be a key contributor to the five annual major sign-ups that define our service, helping to coordinate the essential data that keeps our city moving. The Scheduling Assistant provides essential support to Schedulers and Shift Designers in the daily creation and maintenance of transit schedules. Your primary focus will be managing sign-up related tasks, including the production of schedules, maps, and running boards. You will investigate and resolve service concerns reported through the CACTIS system and coordinate specialized school schedules with community partners. Additionally, you will take an active role in the field by coordinating route testing and schedule adherence checks to ensure operational standards are met. This position requires a balance of independent technical work, data analysis, and frequent collaboration with internal teams like Dispatch, Training, and Planning. Your work directly impacts the accuracy of information provided to transit staff and the reliability of service for everyone in Edmonton.

What will you do?

  • Maintain and update sign-up related items such as schedules, maps, running boards, and service change reports
  • Investigate and respond to customer concerns within the CACTIS program, providing detailed written or verbal resolutions
  • Coordinate school-specific schedules by gathering information on Professional Development days and early dismissals from school boards
  • Perform ad-hoc updates to scheduling applications like HASTUS and Transit Master to reflect trip additions or cancellations
  • Coordinate and conduct route testing to establish travel times and identify operational constraints like narrow roads or parking issues
  • Collaborate with internal collaborators in Dispatch, Training, and Fleet to ensure resources are available for field testing
  • Generate monthly statistics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for internal leadership and external organizations like the Canadian Urban Transit Association
  • Create and distribute running board rack labels and service change notices to ensure operational readiness
Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Transit Operator (not limited to ETS)
  • Experience in any of the following areas: Dispatch, Scheduling, Transit Training (Instructor), Operations (Inspector) and Charters / Park & Ride

Assets:

  • Experience working with HASTUS and ETDS software
  • Knowledge of transit scheduling techniques and application
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with existing ETS bus routes

Skills required for success:

  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to analyze, interpret, and manage complex data
  • Proficiency in various software packages including HASTUS, Microsoft Office Suite & Google Applications with the ability to learn new software quickly
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills to handle multiple demands and competing priorities
  • Highly developed communication skills (written and oral) for responding to customer concerns and collaborating with teams
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze issues, determine the root-cause, and recommend practical solutions
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of the ATU 569 collective agreement and policies related to transit schedules
  • Knowledge of transit routes and factors impacting their efficiency

Conditions of Employment:

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class 2 Alberta Driver's License
  • Must be able to qualify for and maintain a City of Edmonton driving permit
  • Requirement to drive a Transit bus during route testing and field assignments
