Job Summary

The Construction Field Inspector plays a key role in ensuring OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) compliance is present at each of HouseSmart's field locations.

Job Functions

Audit Hubs on General Compliance:

  • Travel to Hub locations to conduct on-site inspections of workplaces to assess compliance with OSHA regulations and standards as well as DOT regulations.
  • Conduct on-site inspections with team members and field leadership to gather information regarding safety protocols, training, and incident history for both safety and transportation compliance.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of commercial vehicles, facilities, and records to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Conduct audits of company safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Review driver qualifications, including licenses, medical certificates, and training records. Inspecting vehicle maintenance records, including inspection reports, repair logs, and vehicle maintenance schedules.
  • Inspect tools, equipment, and fleet to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep.
  • Keep general understanding of all safety and transportation compliance expectations to be able to quickly note and assess Hubs overall compliance.
  • Keep abreast of changes in OSHA and DOT regulations and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Participate in outreach and educational activities to promote awareness of OSHA and DOT regulations and best practices.
  • Assist with verifying compliance with hours-of-service regulations, including driver logs and electronic logging devices (ELDs).

Track and Report Findings:

  • Identify and document findings that are relevant, showing consistent compliance or possible areas of concern for each individual location and as requested by leadership.
  • Review records and documentation related to safety training, injury reports, safety protocols driving records, and general HouseSmart compliance.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective actions have been implemented, following discussions with Safety leadership.

Work Environment:

Travel Requirements: 75-85% (No weekends) Is this a typical office work environment: No This position has special working conditions or physical demands: Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch throughout the workday. Ability to stand and walk throughout the entirety of the workday. Ability to work at heights as well as in crawl spaces.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree is occupational safety, health industrial hygiene, or related field.  
  • Years of Related Experience: 1-3 years' experience in related industry. OSHA certification/s a plus. DOT certification/s a plus.
  • Licenses/Certifications:  Applicable state installers certifications preferred. OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred. Driver's license with approved driving record to operate a company vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):  

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Experience in conducting workplace safety inspections and investigations, a plus.
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze complex information. Excellent communication skills and ability to relay information efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently.
  • Physical ability to perform on-site inspections, including climbing, walking, and lifting.
