Colorado Permanente Medical Group is seeking board certified or board eligible Emergency Medicine Physicians to work in any one of our three Denver metro area Urgent Care clinics at Lone Tre, Aurora Centrepoint and Lakewood medical offices. We offer various shifts (8,10, & 12-hour shifts). Our clinics are equipped with CT scan, US, X-ray, full panel of labs including stat labs and an extensive list of IV and oral medications.  
 
Duties will include urgent care shifts, call center and telehealth venues.

Previous experience should be from an urgent care, hospital or ambulatory clinic setting.

Employment Requirement: Colorado Permanente Medical Group, P.C. staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have established a qualified medical or religious, exemption by September 17, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination or qualifying exemption prior to starting employment.

Job Summary: 

Provide urgent, emergent and non-urgent health care for members in the Emergency Department (ED), Advanced Urgent Care (UC), Telephone Medical Center (TMC) and Telehealth venues.  Care will be commensurate with training and in accordance with the policies and standards of practice, as established by each venue. 

The primary face-to-face clinical responsibilities will lie in staffing KPCO's Urgent Care locations.  If new venues require EM staffing, the group will be responsible for staffing those.  These may include Hospital Emergency Departments, additional UC locations, Clinical Decision Units (CDU) or other venues.   

EM physicians will staff TMC with major responsibilities defined below. Additional EM work will be in Telehealth (TH) venues, currently Chat and Get Care Now (GCN) as required by operational needs.  

Major Responsibilities: 

 Emergency Department

  •  Any new ED contracts will require credentialing at that hospital and duties and responsibilities will be described in accordance with the new contract requirements for Emergency Department care.

Urgent Care

  • Provide continuous in-person coverage to see higher acuity cases than typically seen in a traditional/community urgent care clinic at all UC locations for all hours of operation.
  • Identify and stabilize for transfer, perform low risk procedures, and advance workups that could obviate the need for an otherwise unnecessary ED or hospital stay.
  • Provide on-scene EM consultation and support to FM trained physicians and APPs.
  • Provide accurate and rapid assessment of a wide variety of low-medium acuity conditions which often present to EDs unnecessarily.
  • Assist in medical education of both the patients and clinic staff.
  • Participate in the development of clinic protocols and formulary.
  • Make recommendations, suggestions, and highlight potential efficiencies in the EHR.
  • Complete medical records within 24 hours.
  • Perform such clinical procedures for patient's benefit which are within scope and skill of practitioner.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the clinic's medical support staff, regarding the administering of a patient's care.
  • Provide supervision in case assignment to physician assistant, including sign off on charts.
  • Support and advise nurse triage process with ‘Second Level Triage' decisions.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as may be assigned, by the Medical Director 

Telehealth

  • Provide members high quality virtual care options and develop expertise in all of Colorado's telehealth venues.
  • Manage a wide array of patient concerns, including episodic care as well as assisting in chronic care management and preventive care, providing care via telehealth or referrals for face-to-face care as appropriate.
  • Develop expertise in venue management for members throughout the region, working closely with Nurse Advice, Message Management and TMC to improve care navigation for our members.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with patients through chat, email, video and phone.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous chat encounters, several at a time during busy periods.
  • Develop expertise in efficient use of the Verizon Agent Desktop, the Genesys platform, Dexcare, Pulse and other platforms as becomes necessary.
  • Contribute to efforts at system improvement, including telehealth QA and development and refinement of training materials, as well as mentoring new providers.

Develop good ‘webside manner'.

  • Maintain flexibility in staffing telehealth venues and moving to cover venues with greatest need as directed by the Medical Director of telehealth venues.
  • Participate in department meetings as necessary.
  • Plan vacation and other PTO in coordination with other virtualists and team members to help maintain adequate coverage and adjust for expected seasonal variability.
  • Cover a proportional segment of adverse hours including weekend, holiday, evening and overnight shifts.
  • Maintain appropriate work from home environment including professional background and quiet space from which to work without distractions.

Telephone Medicine Center

  • Demonstrates consistent and reliable diagnostic and therapeutic judgment.
  • Demonstrates ability to telephonically assess ED level patients for stability and appropriateness for 

repatriation/transfer or discharge home.

  • Provides accurate telephonic triage consultations that are in line with KP safety and utilization objectives: right place, right time.
  • Support Urgent care, clinic-based and ASC providers for Emergency Medicine consultation on patients who may need ED level of care.
  • Support RN and LPN's working in NAL and Message Management for high acuity complaints.
  • Provides RN consultations for real-time assessment and treatment for self-limited illness.
  • Supports clinical initiatives.
  • Actively works to continually learn and apply new skills.
  • Practices in accordance with KP approved procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Use and understand evidence-based clinical guidelines at designated and non-designated facilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the EMTALA regulations as they pertain to transfers of KP patients.
  • Use and understand the resources available at various KP facilities and become familiar with the level of care available at designated hospitals.
  • Become familiar with locations of designated facilities and understand how KP service delivery plans integrate with health care facilities located throughout the state of Colorado.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the different methods of patient transfers available and be able to coordinate the timely and safe transfer of patients from non-core Emergency Departments to designated KP facilities.
  • Use and maintain electronic medical records in a manner that protects the confidentiality of the patient and ensures the security of medical records. Provide medical information to the treating physician and help with an appropriate care plan.
  • Ensure an optimal clinical experience for the patients.
  • Ensure patient referrals are appropriate for their medical condition.
  • Provide appropriate consultation and review of physician assistant work in the TMC.
  • Provides support for after-hours critical lab and radiology results.
  • Provides after hours Home Health and Hospice RN consults and orders.
  • Recommend and utilize Dispatch Health services where appropriate.
  • Provides on call services for primary care after hours and on weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and participates in KP business initiatives.
  • Understand the EMS systems for Colorado.

Peer and Co-Worker Relationships

  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Regularly attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Supports goals of the department.
  • Participates with colleagues in the staffing/working of all shifts.

  • Seeks and offers appropriate and timely consultations consistent with protocols.
  • Orders medication within prescriptive authority and promotes the use of the KP formulary.
  • Orders referrals, lab, pharmacy, and radiology tests appropriately.
  • Works with the delivery system to ensure understanding of the referral and clinical review process and its' relationship to the clinical review criteria. 

Required Minimum Education

  • MD or DO – 3 or 4 year ACGME accredited residency program Emergency Medicine
  • Previous experience should be from an urgent care, hospital or ambulatory clinic setting. 

Required Minimum Work Experience

  • Demonstrated success in medical practice as an emergency physician.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and engagement as an emergency physician.
