We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague who is board certified or board eligible in Critical Care Medicine and skilled in the management of the critically ill cardiothoracic surgical patients. Experience with advanced heart failure, temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support, and orthotopic heart transplant care is preferred.

The candidate will provide services of a full-time Intensivist to patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and will be assigned to the Operative Care Line (OCL) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas, one of the most complex facilities in the VA healthcare system. Candidates must be adept in all critical care procedures including endotracheal intubation, central venous lines, arterial lines, temporary dialysis catheters, placement and management of the pulmonary artery catheter, thoracenteses, tube thoracostomy, paracenteses, and lumbar punctures. The candidate must also have an interest in the education of students, residents and fellows, an interest in research, and must be at ease working with a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative fashion.

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has a tradition of excellence and innovation in patient care, education, and research. The cardiothoracic surgeons specialize in all aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve surgery, re-operations, thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery, endovascular and transcatheter procedures including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), lung resection, esophageal surgery, mechanical circulatory support, including Impellas and ECMO, and heart transplant. The candidate will be eligible for an academic position at Baylor College of Medicine.
