Pulmonologist in Beautiful Reno/Lake Tahoe Area

VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) in Reno, NV is seeking a Pulmonary Critical Care Physician.

The Pulmonology/Critical Care Physician is assigned to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, Medical Service, providing comprehensive, efficient, compassionate, high quality healthcare to all patients, functioning as a member of the inter-disciplinary team providing clinical care to the patients at VASNHCS in an outpatient and inpatient setting. As a Pulmonology/Critical Care Physician, the responsibilities include providing medical evaluation and directing overall management of patients in collaboration with other members of health care team. Supervision and education of Internal Medicine Residents and medical students from University of Nevada, School of Medicine, is required. Sleep Medicine is preferred but not required.

This position involves inpatient and outpatient Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. The candidate will have educational responsibilities for Internal Medicine residents, Family Medicine residents and medical students. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending responsibilities for the Medical ICU team (Medical Residents)
  • Critical Care consultation for Surgical patients in ICU (with Medical Residents)
  • Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Pulmonologist. Teaching and mentoring medical students, and residents is required.
  • Must be eligible for an academic appointment with the University of Nevada Reno.
  • The staff Pulmonary/Critical Care Specialist provides expanded access to services via off normal tour or on call periods.

VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) provides inpatient and outpatient care to a large geographical area that includes 20 counties in northern Nevada and northeastern California. The Reno campus is the site of the Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical Center, which operates 64 hospital beds and 60 Community Living Center (CLC) beds. VASNHCS also manages community-based outpatient clinics in Auburn and Susanville, CA, and Carson Valley, Lahontan Valley, Fallon, and Winnemucca, NV. VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System provides health care to approximately 120,000 veterans.

  • Expected Salary range for well qualified Pulm/CC range from $300,000 to $385,000 per year, with consideration given to candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience; and may include up to $15,000 in Annual Performance Bonus. Selected candidate may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), and if approved, receive up to $200k in school loan repayment.
